Building A Sub-woofer: How To Wind A Coil To Desired Resistance?

exactly how many windings?How many layers? and what size gauge wire?What length coil?I wonder if there is a math formula for it. do you just insulate coil 1 from coil 2 after 4, or 8 layers to get a dvc coil?

Exactly 42 winds will give you everything you could want.

42 is the answer.

because every former is exactly the same size, every wind is exactly the same, every piece of wire has exactly the same amount of resistance.

what if i wanna do dvc?

Bro just buy what you want and dont try to wind one yourself. There is a reason that all of your sub manufactures buy coils instead of winding them themselves. I dont know exactly how it is done, but I could take a good guess that a machine does all of the work so that it is exact and precise. Every coil is done exactly the same for the batch that is ordered.

Im not looking for a super effiecnt coil but atleast a properly functioning coil, was really hoping too build a full do it yourself subwoofer. I know it probly wont be super loud, but just somthing that i can say i built.

Theres guys on youtube building home made sub. Works pretty god but they dont respond, hoping some one on here knows for super sure, :5shots:

R=(PxL)/A

R=resistance

P=resistivity (which is different with each type of material, just look it up, table of resistivities .)

L= length of the wire

A=crossectional area of the wire (Pi x radius x radius)

You first have to decide how high the coil can be and how wide it can be.

For instance if you have a 3 inch coil, the lenght per winding is 2 x Pi x radius. (2*1.5*Pi=9.24)

So each winding will be 9.24 inch long.

Then you just determine which lenght of wire you need based on of this information.

(i didn't include all the steps, if you search you can easily find everything you need or by just thinking about what i typed.)

Just make sure the wire you use is insulated.

I don't get why nobody has answerd his question, it's pretty easy.

Thinking is the root of all problems...
