Hellbilly429
Hey guys, new to the forum and new to box building, have always used prefabbed boxes for every system I have ever installed so I need help designing a box for my 2010 Chevy Cobalt LT. If anyone has ever seen the trunk opening on these things, you can understand why I am in need of a custom box as I am limited to about 15 Inches height by 29 Inches width at the maximum size I can squeeze into this thing. Going in through the back seat isn't much better, don't have the measurements for the opening on that. I have a 2 12" Duals in a bandpass box right now (had to take the trunk latch out and bodyslam the S&*% out of it to get it in there, wasn't worried about ruining since it's cheap). I want to get them out of there and run one Sundown Sa12 in a ported enclosure. I have been trying to use the torres calculator and been drawing up diagrams to try to come up with a box design that will get me roughly around 2 ft^3 tuned as close to 35hz as possible. This is what I have come up with so far, but I need opinions as I am seeing that people are saying slotted port width should be wider than what I have been playing around with on the calculator. Please remember I am new to the box building and designing thing, so I really have no clue what to do when it comes to the whole port tuning thing, any help or clarification is extremely appreciated. Once I get my desired dimensions I will fab up a cardboard box with the same exterior dimensions to make sure that it will fit in my trunk. 2018 Honda Civic Sport Hatchback (build in progress) NVX Sound Deadener (Front Doors) Stinger FAST Rings Stock Electrical SSA Evil 6.5's Front Speakers Stock rear speakers MB Quart ONX4.80 speaker amp Rockford Fosgate T-1500bdcp DC Level 4 12" D1 @ 2-ohm Box In Design Stage Stock RadioMy Build Log

321slapinbass
2nd box is much better. key it to stay around 14 in^2 - 16 in^2 on the port area for slot ports. to find the correct amount of port area for a box, you need to multiply the width and height of a port that you think will work and then divide that number by your desired box volume. if that number is less then 14 (or more then 17) then make the port a little wider (or less wide) and do the calculation again. if your box is 2 cubes and you need 14 - 16 in^2 of port per cube just multiply random port widths and heights together and then divide the total by the volume of the box.. Example: you have a 2 ft^3 box, so for the port try 12.5" x 2.25" = 28.125 in^2... 28.125 divided by 2 (box volume) = 14. so with the specs you gave us, your 2 ft^3 box need to have a port that is at least 12.5" x 2.25" to have 14 in^2 of port per cube. you can also do 12.5" x 2.5" for 15.6 in^2 of port per cube. 2000 Dodge Durango Subs - (2) SKAR VVX 15 D2's Box - 7.2 ft^3 @ 33hz, 120 in of port Sub amp - Digital Designs M2 @ .5 ohm Mids + Highs - PRV Audio Mids + Highs amp - Hifonics 2000.4 Headunit - Alpine CDE-100 Equalizer - Clarion EQS746 Batteries - Mopar group 27 + (2) C&D 52ah Wiring - 1/0 BIG 3, (2) runs 1/0 Alternator - Singer 250A 147.79 dB @ 35hz - burp - sealed on dash 147.47 dB @ 35hz - music - sealed on dash YOUTUBE: http://www.youtube.com/user/321slapinBass/videos

john253a
my best advice with the sa12 is 1.8net @26.5hz with 26sq" of port or as close as you can get to it, this sub will give you excellent output and sq in that box
Hellbilly429
Really? Damn, thought I was all set with my design now as I wanted to make it as close to Sundown's recommended size and frequency for a ported box for the SA12. Plus I also listen to a lot of metal and death metal, so I want to make sure it can still kick with my music as well as put some good boom out when I feel like showing off or just gettin my bass fix. 2018 Honda Civic Sport Hatchback (build in progress) NVX Sound Deadener (Front Doors) Stinger FAST Rings Stock Electrical SSA Evil 6.5's Front Speakers Stock rear speakers MB Quart ONX4.80 speaker amp Rockford Fosgate T-1500bdcp DC Level 4 12" D1 @ 2-ohm Box In Design Stage Stock RadioMy Build Log
