Dwn4BassAlan Posted December 6, 2012 Report Posted December 6, 2012 I've been waiting for the holidays to rack up some cash so I can do some upgrading, and I figured I should do some electrical so that my car will stop cutting out 30 seconds into a decibel-drenched song. My question is whether the electrical system as a whole will be able to hold up even if I add 2 batteries. I have the stock alternator, which I realize is a large problem seeing as to how old it is and that it probably only puts out about 80A. Normally I would just do an alt upgrade and get a good battery, but I don't want to spend that mush money on the alt, and I can't afford any more power loss (efficiency) from the engine, so I only want to add 2 batteries. So under these circumstances, will my alternator @80A, 2 large batteries (possibly D1200's??), and the big 3 with 0-awg be able to hold up a good bass run? I have "2000W" RMS but I put that in quotes because I am obviously not pulling that much out with only 80A.....so will it be able to support the system at full draw for more than like 15 minutes or so? I dont have AC to worry about and my engine bay is full of space so battery size/alt size is really not an issue whatsoever. Also, would my stock alt overcharge the AGM with a high voltage since its not regulated for internal electronics because there basically are none?
