Leo1103 Posted May 10, 2013 Author Report Posted May 10, 2013 okay first I cut a piece to width and tried bending it over the shape I wanted kinda worked but snapped before I got the full curve so then I tried kerfing with my jigsaw... safe I know but it kind of worked before it snapped again. then I remembered how some people use steam to bend wood... well took 20 min but it worked like a charm! glued in the side piece for now, probably gna let it cure over the weekend before I unscrew it from the mold 2002 Honda CR-VAlpine 9887My BuildRebuilding... Then all thats left to do is figure out how I'm going to mount my radio, make the top piece, wrap it and it's done. Use the radio cage as a template, wrap it in tinfoil or blue tape, glass the cage, remove the cage, work with the fiberglass mold. Or make an mdf trim ring piece that fits the cage in there, then glass that into the console somewhere. Edit: I would recommend the sunflash. Since you won't have to worry about it curing to quick on these tricky ass pieces. Much easier the second time around, hopefully the glue is dry by tomorrow so I can attach it to the panels and start bracing it. Leo1103 Posted May 14, 2013 Author Report Posted May 14, 2013 okay some more progress today, framed up the back of the center console and attached it all together. I also glued the handbrake pocket to the console here's a pic just to show how much clearance I had when I made this, gotta love measuring 3 times coupled with sheer dumb luck thats it for progress until payday, I ordered some sunflash from Steve and 10 yards of chopmat. So whenever those get here I can start bracing the cage and the pocket. In other news I'm still stumped on how I'm going to make a top piece for the console, as of right now I'm between steaming some more luan like the handbrake pocket or just fiberglassing the whole top.
