Torres Posted January 30, 2008 Report Posted January 30, 2008 when i try to play a dvd on my PC, it plays, but the only player i get sound out of is a program called power DVD. no other program. not even windows media player. you're probably thinkin 'well use power DVD'. i would...except no matter how many times i click, the captions STAY on. which i find annoying. and secondly, the resolution is choppy. not as nice and sharp compared to windows media. so how do i get the sound to work on windows media player? i uninstalled power DVD already. am i just missin somethin simple? AI James Posted January 30, 2008 Report Posted January 30, 2008 seems like windows media player needs codecs Quote

91Fox Posted January 30, 2008 Report Posted January 30, 2008 I use VLC Media player, it's free and it works great. Quote
AI James Posted January 30, 2008 Report Posted January 30, 2008 yep that was it. didnt know i needed a dvd decoder to get sound. but got one from microsoft. thanks yea sadly youd think microsoft would include it. Quote
Torres Posted January 30, 2008 Author Report Posted January 30, 2008 lol it should. but knowing microsoft...you'd have to spend the extra cash on the 'premium' edition to get it. like vista basic only sees 1 gig of ram on the system, and you gotta get the premium version to see more. meh... Quote
AI James Posted January 30, 2008 Report Posted January 30, 2008 I use VLC Media player, it's free and it works great. i have vlc on one of my home units, nothign wrong with it, but im a firm believer in less problems is better. Quote
Torres Posted January 30, 2008 Author Report Posted January 30, 2008 just got the VLC, and i like that one best. the windows player isnt FULL full screen. i see a little box for the movie. VLC fills the screen completely, and has sound. so i'm happy with that one. thanks guys x2 on fewer problems. but what can ya do? i'm finally glad i got a solution lol Quote
Slinky Posted January 30, 2008 Report Posted January 30, 2008 IMO windows media player is the best by far. It has amazing plugins and eq's and the sound is awesome. also once you get the right codecs, i never have any problems with video files.
