revoracing247 Posted January 21, 2013 Report Posted January 21, 2013 hey guys im finally getting around to prepping my box to start painting it and im about to start filling all the counter sunk screws in the box. i'm using body filler to fill them and when i tried filling them before, some of the screw holes would get pockets of air still in the hole so when i sanded it down flat there was still a hole there. does anyone know of, or have, and tricks to make sure there's no pockets of air still in the counter sunk holes? here's what the counter sunk screws look like just to be clear. ~ If it was easy, everybody would be doing it ~
HatersGonnaHate Posted January 21, 2013 Report Posted January 21, 2013 I usually use a wood putty of some type, Elmer's wood putty, and I cover the screw holes with that. Put a glob of putty on your thumb, force it into the screw hole, smooth off the excess putty, let it dry, sand it down. Done. will77530 Posted January 21, 2013 Report Posted January 21, 2013 wood putty will shrink and youll get an outline of the screw hole
revoracing247 Posted January 21, 2013 Author Report Posted January 21, 2013 sooo then bondo is still a good choice for filling them right? ~ If it was easy, everybody would be doing it ~
HatersGonnaHate Posted January 21, 2013 Report Posted January 21, 2013 Wood putty, then bondo lol. Damn you Will. I always use more putty then necessary to compensate for the shrinkage problem My name is AdamThis is my Civic Build.7" Samsung Tab 2Kenwood KDC-X896Clarion EQS746Sundown X-15DC 3.5k @2ohmHatersGonnaHate's 02 Civic UBLELD Bypass for Honda Civic/Accord/FitDon's Jeep Grand Cherokee Rebuild N8ball2013 - i think you'd stick your dick in a blender if it told you it was 40 wtih two kids your age. lol srp365 - If posting were picking up bitches, I'd be going home single tonight looks like tony montana sneezed in your car.
purplesyrup Posted January 21, 2013 Report Posted January 21, 2013 i'd guess that bondo would be a good choice, I used wood filler on my old boxes, and flec stoned them, never had any issues
revoracing247 Posted January 21, 2013 Author Report Posted January 21, 2013 Wood putty, then bondo lol. Damn you Will. I always use more putty then necessary to compensate for the shrinkage problem any idea how long i should wait for the wood filler to fully shrink before i apply bondo? i'm guessing that's what i should do right? ~ If it was easy, everybody would be doing it ~
OrangeJuiced Posted January 21, 2013 Report Posted January 21, 2013 I used only bondo for my box. Just have to make sure you apply enough bondo and really force it in there. 2001 GMC Sierra Build. Body dropped and Juiced
HatersGonnaHate Posted January 21, 2013 Report Posted January 21, 2013 It dries pretty quick, cures completely within a few hours. I'd say wait about 2 hours, then check back for shrinkage. Apply another layer of putty, let cure, sand down. The same method would apply for doing it with bondo. Apply bondo, let it cure, sand it down. If there's any pinholes/bubbles, apply another thin coat of bondo to cover/fill them.
