Why hello my old thread.

Well damn. Old thread, but hmmmmm.

I'm really debating doing this to my escort.

It has 230k and never been sea foamed. Have recently just started idling badly to the point of almost dieing, to a cough and stumble while driving now. Checked fuel rail, injectors, idle air control valve, plugs, and maf sensor.

No codes thrown.

Threw it on the scanner/computer, nothing out if the ordinary, long term fuel trim was jumping around quite a lot and going kinda high, but I guess that's normal for these engines according to all of the things I've read and researched on the net.

It's making me so sad, I wanted to get 350k out of my baby.

Wouldn't hurt to try it I use it in all my cars oil and gas tank. for intake cleaning I buy the spray and spray it through the throttle body.

Also what year escort this happened to my brothers and turned out to be a bad water pump screwing up the timing. No cel either.

I forgot to say I replaced the pcv valve too.

It's a 1998 escort wagon se, 2.0L four banger, SOHC.

It's weird, sometimes it's running read bad, then all of a sudden it will kinda "kick in" and then start to run smooth. Sometimes the misfire is steady, like its missing on a cylinder and only firing on 3.

What do you mean by "no cel either"?

If you can help me figure this out you have no idea how much I would appreciate that!

No cel means No check engine light. It sounds like a timing issue to me. have you ever changed the timing belt before? Also maybe a fuel pump issue have you tested the fuel pressure?

Ahh cel. Doh, lol.

Never changed the timing belt, but yes tested the fuel pressure at the fuel rail, was in normal spec. ]

I would change the timing belt along with the water pump and timing belt tensioner. it's not a hard job to do if you have the right tools took me like 2 hours with breaks to yell at the car every once in awhile lol. It's also is pretty cheap autozone sells a kit with everything for around $100 but I would go with better parts. Tops your looking at $200-300.

If you decide to do it I'd be more than willing to answer any questions you may have. Also if you're unsure about diving into something like this being unsure if that's what it is you could have a mechanic diagnose the problem so you know for sure what's causing it. But the timing is my best guess and it's a very common problem with escorts.

Back to the Royal Purple. It's sexy purple and all, but it gets hard for me to tell when my oil is getting dark (not that I don't change it every God damn month because I'm weird) but as was said earlier, Mobil 1 Full Synth is thee secks. And Amsoil in the tranny.
