One post corroded and other fine? Causes

Recommended Posts

So I went to take out stock battery and drop in my D 6500. I had tsunami terminals on it... The pos terminal was totally fine and the negative was totally corroded, when I took it off the post was fine and not leaking and the wires were ok. What causes this and do I have to worry about this happened with my D 6500??? Thanks, will post a pic I took early if anyone wants it

The negative side will always corrode being under the hood exposed to the elements, if i'm not mistaken the gases escaping from the battery cause it to corrode.

Just pour some baking soda water on it and it will clean and neutralize it, just mix a tablespoon or two in a cup of warm water and pour it over the terminal.

AGM batteries aren't corrosive because they're a dry cell battery.

The corrosion is from gases escaping from the battery.

Lead-acid batteries under the hood = no problem as long as the connection stays clean.

AGM batteries are sealed so they won't corrode.

IF you do see corrosion on an AGM, then your battery may have a small leak and it should be checked. This is especially important if the battery is directly inside your cabin.
