TRTC360 Posted March 12, 2013 Report Posted March 12, 2013 Not saying low voltage is good in any way but jesus you guys talk as if his amp is gonna blow right as it sees below 12v, I understand things can go bad but with todays amps like dd, sundown, nendo, skar, aq etc they are built tough. With that being said I still don't think you should go full tilt off that one battery but you should be fine playing 1/2 volume maybe a little more if you keep it on a charger as you play it. Not sure if it's been said but what will it be wired to? Plugs into the wall and allows you to adjust the AC voltage. Then you could wall socket it and be able to adjust the output. Honestly you're never going to get that thing to max volume or even close before shit starts falling off the shelves. As long as you watch the voltage and slowly turn up the volume you'll be fine. You probly wont get over 100W before the teacher makes you turn it down anyway (due to distracting other classrooms and such). You're also never going to find a power supply that could support an amp like that at full bore. You're talking >100A for a big amount of output anyway which you'll never get to. PSU's in that range are $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$. Small supply's aren't going to support your voltage when the battery voltage capacity drops. Just play test tones and watch the voltage and you'll be fine. I have an 18 on 350 true watts in a small house living room and it sounds good and fairly loud but dont expect mid 130s and definitely not 140s ahhah. i dont know the exact purpose of your demonstration but if it is just show show off the frequency of woofer keep it on low volume and show the cone. it will move on low power. just as a benchmark, the D3100 took a 500 amp continuous draw and dropped to like 10.xx the DD amps apparently can play till like 9 volts but you risk blowing still. so if you have a kinetic and try this watch your power. if it were me, take the type r, a lot easier to move around lighter and you wont risk breaking things whether it be by dropping them or by other kids. plus i wouldnt show off what i have to people. they might like it and look for your car... edit: if you have to load it off the wall which that will help tremendously, how will they see sub? unles sub and port are on opposite sides. its your stuff in the end but it sounds like a lot of risk for the reward you get. i think you think the reward will be a lot greater than it really is. you may even be disappointed. You're studying vibrations so another great topic would be to discuss reflections. Yes in the middle of the classroom, the output will be much less. Move the box to the corner of the classroom and I'll guarantee that it comes to life. Its called "corner-loading". The corners of that room will reflect the sound waves and give you some gain. The exact same principle as "cabin-gain" in a car and why the sub-boxes are that much louder in a car then in a big room...the interior of a car is ALL corners. They do sell Ac to Dc power converters but unless you buy a really nice one they don't produce a ton of power to sustain an amp at high volumes for very long.
