subs mysteriously go up in smoke.

Power and ground on amps switched maybe?

nope. the amp did heat up, but it wasn't blown, it was the subs that blew.

But the subs blowing might have been symptomatic of an amp that blew. Did the subs suck in or push out at all?

amp messes up instead of putting out ac it puts out dc which roasts woofers.

clipping can cause damage even at low volume i watched 2 dd12s blow the oher day on low volume

Then something else was wrong, or the volume was not that "low". :)

Current system:

1997 Blazer - (4) Customer Fi NEO subs with (8) American Bass Elite 2800.1s

Previous systems:

2000 Suburban - (4) BTL 15's and (4) IA 40.1's = 157.7 dB at 37 Hz.

1992 Astro Van - (6) BTL 15's and (6) IA 40.1's = 159.7 dB at 43 Hz.

damn....couldn't imagine having that happen to an expensive set-up...

My friend is getting a new amp and is probably getting these reconed.
