momofx76 Posted April 10, 2013 Report Posted April 10, 2013 I have 2 AB HD 15's in a 7.8 cu. ft. box with 3 6" aero ports. I was just wondering, since the 3 6" ports appear to take up some room inside the box, will going to a single 10" aero port tuned to the same frequency be of any benefit? Lower response? A little more spl? ...
Chris Hammer Posted April 10, 2013 Report Posted April 10, 2013 You will have less port area. So if you made it the same length you would drop tuning. Now the big question...will you be louder? No one knows. Even something as simple as you seat position could make you louder or quieter...so you might lose port area but the port could end up being in a better position and be louder..or it could be quieter.. No one can give you a definitive answer... IMO unless you are competing and looking for every last .1db...I would keep the 6" aeros. Plus i personall think you could actually beneift from more port area, not less. You are at 10.8"^2 per foot cubed...you might benefit from more port. Joe X Posted April 10, 2013 Report Posted April 10, 2013 The 10" port will nominally need about 10" clearance in both ends, that's usually hard to achieve.

Thats something I didn't think about. Good point. MY BUILD *****http://tinyurl.com/gmcbuild***** Vehicles 2005 GMC Canyon CB1000r - Currently where any future funds are going. Bradprobert Posted April 10, 2013 Report Posted April 10, 2013 Are you trying to achieve any goal with the different port? if so what is your goal and we can help point you in the right direction. Other than that they summed it up as good as it can get. momofx76 Posted April 11, 2013 Author Report Posted April 11, 2013 Yes I'm trying to break 150db - I got that dreaded curse of 149.x db Cant sleep, Cant eat, Cant j**k off, hell I cant do shit now!!!!! Oh and btw I am wanting to stay in M1 0-1000 still :/
Omega5002 Posted April 11, 2013 Report Posted April 11, 2013 If you want to gain port area, switch to a 12' port(sonotube), though of course, you need at least 12' of clearance behind it as well. Switching to a 10' will make you lose some port area. 2003 Kia Sorento Team Subsonic LowsTeam Bassin' on a Budget2016 Rebuild Under Construction Best score: 150.2 at 40hz (3k, 2 Custom HDC3 15's) Usaci style(door open, in the kick)
