System in a classic

I'm trying to figure out the best way to get a decent system in a '67 Impala convertible without being able to see much of anything that doesn't look factory. I already plan to go with Focal speakers and a Focal amp for the mids & highs. I was planing on doing a couple Sundown Audio 12" E-series in the trunk in a ported box facing forward. The only actual dilemma I am running into is how to run all of this through an iPod or iPad while being able to charge the device at the same time...

Any help and/or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Hide a headunit in the glove compartment ... you will need it to turn on and off your amplifiers too ...

Youre going to have to add processor or something to control the ipod to the amp/amps. Then relay wires to switches or something to cut them on when you want without a deck with a remote wire. Imo it would be less factory running a bunch of extra wires and boxes

Classic car shouldn't have an Ipod/Ipad in it anyway. Never understood loud systems in a nice classic...I would rather hear some mid volume classic rock while cruisin with the windows down so I could hear the engine too. My exGF had a Vega with LT1. It had a deck in it, can't remember brand/name, but looked like a classic deck but took cd's and aux cord hidden in the glove. Had a small 4ch in the rear hidden away and some convertible components in the kick. The kick was the only part that did not look classic or stock.... But subs and loud ass electro/rap music would have killed the experience of cruisin in that car at the beach or around town. Just my opinion...Keep it as factory and original as you can. It doesn't need the Boom Boom to be badass.

At a local car show saw a perfectly restored late 60's camaro..had factory stickers under the hood...jsut badass car. Look inside and he had a Xplod deck and fucking kicker 12's in the rear in a shitty prefab. I wanted to cry.

Chris, I completely understand that. I restore classic cars and trucks. This is being built for my dad, the car is all original with 93,000 miles and he is just looking for some quality sound.

I am also going to school for automotive restoration, so I completely do understand that. Also have a '69 chevy c10 with a factory 396; beautiful truck, still put a full sound system in it that you don't even notice. And with that cam that's in it, it takes a little bit to just hear the music; I love the sound of a well built motor, but I still love my music.

And that headunit that you're thinking of is from custom auto sound, that's what I have in the truck.

If you've got a bit if money to throw around, check into the McIntosh head units. I've seen some of their HU's that would look fantastic in a classic. Great sound quality too.

You can also sub mounted h/u

Where there is nothing but a small I/R up front that you control with remote

And H/U as such is in the trunk

And you just Bluetooth or pop the trunk to change songs, the one my friend has, has only USB and Bluetooth, and he just went to computer shop and brought an extishion for the USB and has it in his centre console

There are quite a few options

Another is have the factory radio redone where they only reuse the face and all behind is new

I no it's not a mainstream but common brand and as for who does the face lifts there are a few in Australia but there should be more then a few in usa
