But amazingly, I have done something lol, AND IT'S WOOFER PROGRESS RELATED. woah, what? Progress? Can this be?

Yes. So I figured out how much I want to space the basket by, then using the left over aluminum square rod I cut out the pieces accordingly. It ended up looking like this.

Original screws were too short now, got some stainless 2" ones, home depot didn't have any nice grade 8 cap screws, only bolts. Hopefully they won't warp and strip when I really tighten them for real later on.

BUT, of course, like with every step of the way, there's a problem. Surprise, surprise. I was holding the voicecoil in hand, standing up, when I dropped it onto the basket accidentally.

It did take a nice hit, and the bottom lip of the former bent slightly, and the bottom coil winding is bent inwards a little. It also scraped off a slight bit of the anodized coating on the former, and scratched the coils a slight bit. Got the pics here, you guys think it's bad enough to affect it? I might have to order a new one even if it might affect it, don't want a risk.

I've been trying to think of how to do it and everything I think of involves metal, which scrapes it even more. Even with a towel, more of the anodized coating comes off.

It might be a lost cause at this point, I don't see much gain from running a damaged coil even if it's not considerably terrible.

so since it's gonna be a few days before I am sure about this coil, I was wondering about increasing my gap height. If I order another steel ring to just snap on top of the current top plate, would it hurt to make the top plates even to the pole magnet? (the pole magnet would NO longer be extended) Is there a loss or considerable negative from doing that or not really?

Since I know I'm probably already getting a nice amount of loss and stray flux from the totally saturated steel top plate, I'm figuring this is going to be a better way of utilizing all (or at least more of) the neo into the gap.

Coils fine as long as its still round.

And why not get some 1/2"DIA/ ( how ever much tall spacer) made up rather then rig shit with those square tubes.

Can even use machine screw nuts ( ive done it.. ) It will also allow air to pass threw to cool coil. Yes, i realize the motor is open amd coil should cool OK from there..

Yeah, I'm no woofer builder, but that square tubing looks awfully rigged to me... Doesn't seem like it'd hold once it's actually moving and vibrating.
