Homemade Super-Neo Woofer: THE CHEVELLE RESTORATION IS DONE, dampener recommendations??

Belt Sander ftw. Do you ever measure stuff? A micrometer could go a long ways towards preventing similar snafus in the future.

Do I what? No, don't think so. Could you teach me? I'm only trying to build. a. subwoofer. from. nothing. Of course I didn't measure. Who would need measurements on such a design-dependent performance based on electromagnetic and physical calculations? That sounds like a foolish move......pfft measurements are for people who want accuracy, and nerds. #yolo #nomeasurementlife

Fucking love Alan you goddamned fucking super nerd lol

When Alan uses big words I don't understand

It's warming up enough that the donut-punching cyclist douchenozzles are getting their two wheeled fagmobiles out.

Everytime I see a guy driving a mini cooper I cant help but think he loves cock & (2/29/16)-My wife just bitched at me about throwing out things we don't really use. My response of well we don't really use your vagina so should we throw that out was evidently not the right response. I had to leave the room.

I missed Alan.

RIP 5/29/15 - I love you son.

he cut the pcv in half, so he cant measure it easily unfortunately.

get a rough wood working or aluminum file. Just have to clean the file out every now and then. And i'd find something to test with before trying to put the plate on because getting the pcv out will be a bitch if it gets pinched, you dont want to use heat near the motor.

edit

You could also use a grinder, but you have to be careful as it will eat the pcv away in a hurry and be very uneven if you dont practice a bit first. I used to be pretty good at shaping pcv on a grinder ;)

I really don't care if it's uneven at the bottom as long as it can allow the plate to get over and still slide out after. And you'd be surprised at how resilient this plastic is

P.S to everyone who thinks it's PVC, it's actually ABS, hadn't noticed until yesterday. I never use ABS and we hardly use it for plumbing work anymore but I don't know if that changes anything here. Feels less compressible than PVC.

WHY DO I EVEN TYPE IT IN THE ORIGINAL POST???

I ALREADY TRIED BELT SANDING WITH 36 GRIT, AND IT DID NOTHING.

HIT IT WITH CALIPERS AND IT DIDN'T EVEN REMOVE MORE THAN 0.2 INCHES AFTER 20 MINUTES.

I'll hit it with my random orb sander and hope for something better, but I'm highly skeptic.

Heat/stretch with a heat gun? Similar idea to how they make fiber optic cables

I'm afraid it might bend/deform it and have fitment issues.

Do you have access to a lathe? You could shave some off with that

Could try and find a local fabricating/cabinet shop and see if they have a tool that will help.

If nothing you might try going PVC, my belt sander does fast work of the cell core.

Krakin, are you some sort of mad scientist?

I would have replied earlier, but I was measuring the output of my amp with a yardstick . . .

What you hear is not the air pressure variation in itself

but what has drawn your attention

in the two streams of superimposed air pressure variations at your eardrums

An acoustic event has dimensions of Time, Tone, Loudness and Space

Everyone learns to render the 3-dimensional localization of sound based on the individual shape of their ears,

thus no formula can achieve a definite effect for every listener.

You need to use a grinder or a file on ABS I think.

You could mount the ABS in a lathe or drill press and grind it while it spins.. just dont spin it too fast lol.

Any time you have have a power wire next to your frame put some rubber hosing (or cut up an innertube) around it. The wire is bound to wiggle (due to driving or flex) and the casing will eventually wear through.

you need to soak it in cider.

but seriously, try putting the abs in the freezer for a couple hours and the top plate in the oven at about 150f. 150f should be safe for it right? That might give you enough wiggle room if you work fast. But you need to get it together and pull the abs out in short time'

Like stevil said a grinder with practice sounds like the best bet to me even a die grinder (unsure of spelling) Hell even a drill with a wire wheel or grinding stone would work wonders

Edit micrometer is a good investment but imho slide caliber is better

Micrometer > slide caliper any day of the week
micrometers are the bomb lol takes a lil learnin but they are great!

heat wont hurt the top plate, its just steel, but heating it and cooling the abs wont achieve anything.

If we were seating a large planetary bearing race which only needs a couple thousandths of an inch to set then heating would be ok..
