SPL Myth?

Okay so I'm new to the usaci and the actual competition side of car audio, My friend is trying to tell me his s10 will meter wayy higher than an explorer so to say, even though the explorer is a better all around build and tuned to 36 and his is tuned to 26. He says that the closer the box is to the front where the metert is the higher his score will be, BUT I have also had people telling me further away from meter has a higher spl score. can anyone shed some light on this for me it would be greatly appreciated and im sure would let some other people know just that much more in terms to metering.

the old square s10's are beasts in usaci.....super high numbers

Its going to depend on about a dozen factors. Being tuned to 26 hz is about retarded though

yeah, its stupid low, 2 15 Crossfire Xs v.2's and its actually a 2000 sanoma just said s10 for sake of simplicity, a dn yeah it gets down xD

while it may get down, the meter probably doesn't get up tuned that low, but like someone said above, there are about a dozen factors. Not many tune that low for spl.

Like n8 said, a dozen factors come in to play on how loud something will be, Its all about the box and overall build quality (which includes a lot of things)

And a 26hz tune limits you to almost no music but some tones and some very slowed tracks

yup lots of slowed tracks got a slow app xD ya it was jsut an argument we had about port being closer = higher scores, so take for instance a Civic with 2 sa12's tuned to 35hz and a small suv same everything you get what im saying does closer to port = higher meter? lol

Uhm... Sorry to butt in but correct me if Im wrong. SQ cars, designed to play ALL types of music, are tuned in the 24-28hz range. So the box should have no problem being musical. Just wont be as loud and peaky.

No most sq cars are not tuned that low. That will creste a lower peak lower than most mid ranges want to play. Most are in fact sealed some run a ported substage for spl testing and turn it off fornthe sq portion. Alot ofbhardcore. Sq guys have a sub in the front as well. I stand by my statement that tuning in the 20s serves no purpose for actual music listening. If all you listen to is decaf and stuff like that well then um yeah its still shas no purpose since you are at the threshold of human hearing. Mechanical noise sounds so sweet.
