2003 Kia Sorento Build log (Pair of Team AA 15's in and playing)

So when are you gonna give it a break just long enough to grab your cam and take a vid?

I'll get a video soon lol

Well, got the singer 220 in, with a Gates Mirco VT

Well, did a notice a good difference, voltage didn't drop straight into the 11's like it did with the stock alt lol

Though encountered 2 problems, one, the deka was hurting more than helping, so took it out and now I'm just running all sprinters, charging voltage is a lot better

And I have to re-tighten the belt, when I installed the belt, it was nice and tight, but after use and heat, it stretched a bit, so it's not as tight anymore, which means under full load, it doesn't grip on the alternator well, so voltage starts out great then dips down into the low 12's, 11's if I keep pushing it, gonna see if I can tighten the belt some more, guess this is just more basshead problems

The bass also destroyed the fans in the amp rack, frontstage is a joke when it's full tilt, never knew doubling power and cutting the impedence in half would reveal so much more rattles when I put a shit ton of deadener, oh well.

I'm not doing the 3 way idea any more, gonna go for a simple 2 way, need something more effcient so plans are 2 pro audio 10's and a planar per side. Ended up trading my leftover 1/0, deadener and 360.2 for a new-ish laptop lol

Might also just stick with 4 batts, and use the empty spot for a 500 farad maxwell cap setup, batteries can only do so much till they are dead.

The 1500's are also tough as hell, at .5 each, they don't give a shit, barely get warm, and still maintain the awesome damping factor I like.

Though for now, I'm happy with the setup, sounds great and it's brutal as all hell, and I can still seat 5 people

With some tuneing and box expirements i bet you can get a 50 out of it

I'd really prefer not to build a new box with how well this one plays lol

Well, been a while but here's some updates

So I was idiot and used the wrong dd-1 track, and ended up burning my coils, sure I re dd-1-ed but it was too late, so I tore out the cones

10257210_898340403516213_535093385070903

So, instead of ordering recones from soundqubed cause I was afraid of burning the coils again and I hated how stiff the suspension was, so I tried getting custom recones built by Dave Leib(FLAstrongman on other forums), and he ended up fucking up and put 12' inch cones, and to make it worse, he left for vacation till July, so I returned the recones and still trying to get my money back.
10339372_898340400182880_411075082261220

I ended up without bass for a few weeks, and then I found a great deal on a pair of Sundown Zv2's from one of those facebook classifieds and jumped on the deal
fast forward 2 days

Dropped them in, wired at .5 each, oddly voltage ended up being much better, like mid 13's, probably these subs are D1 dcr coils, not true D1 like the HDC3's were

Now you guys wonder, wouldn't the zv2's fail in the box because sundown says 3 cubes for the 15' and 35hz or below for tuning, nope, they sound great in my box, plays 25hz to 60hz very well, and the response is fantasic, a lot punchier and faster, and of course it sounds louder. They also don't give a crap, they can take a nice beating.

But here's my explanation, based off stock specs, they are a low qts, high vas, low epb subwoofer, which means in theory, they should like big ported boxes, and at this point, I don't care what reccomended is, so I had a good feeling they would work fine in a 9.2 cube box tuned to 37hz, and they work great, would it be best for the meter, probably not, do I care, not really, it sounds great, and if I have to give up musical for numbers, well screw that then.

Anyways, I'll post results and hopefully a new video soon.

Yeah, a big bummer on the recons, but I ended up liking the Zv2's better

The frontstage hasn't been going anywhere really, but hopefully soon I'll get something started

Got a few updates

First off, got myself a pair of Dayton Audio planars and Emience Alpha 6C's, I threw the 6c's in the doors, and they make my silverflutes sound like shit lol, looks like I'll be running pro audio from now on, just love the sound, feels so lively.

Another important update, the Zv2's didn't end up going well, I lost on the meter, lost my low end, and 1 of them was fucked up ever since I bought them, lost a triple joint. Oh well, I liked the aq's better, and speaking of AQ's, I have some updates about those.

I got some custom recones built for them

Recones consists of
- High roll surround
- 2 thick leads
- Carbon fiber duscap
- 3 medium stiff spiders
- 4 layer flatwound aluminum coil

Recone job was done by my friend Dave at The Audio Garage

Well, the recones made these woofers sound a lot better and more brutal, they are a lot more responsive, high notes, and low notes are stronger, and the coil doesn't get hot anymore.

I just need to finish breaking these in, and then I'll test on the meter.

What I'm doing with the zv2 motors, well I'm selling them to a friend to help him get a little louder.

Oh yeah, got the recones from here

Though have a few things to do, gonna do some more runs, and replace my back bank of the 2 sprinter 285's with a Northstar Group 31, as the sprinters are 5 years old lol
