FosgateLife Posted June 21, 2013 Report Posted June 21, 2013 Okay so many of you know that i keep my baby spotless. 24/7 as much as possible. Everytime it rains, it gets a bath, and i usually wash it around 2-3 times a week (because i have way too much time on my hands) The soap i use is Mequires Gold Class for the rims, and Sanctiond car soap for the body. When i first got the car, i used Mequires Mirror Glaze Fine cut #2 cleaner. Doubled up on that to make sure the crap, oxidation and all that was off. Then i used the 21 polymer sealant 2.0. THEN i used a wax no longer made that was the GOOD SHIT. The #16 paste (blue wax). (My dad has his last can) Every 2 weeks, which usually adds up to 5-6 washes, i repeat the steps of the 21 polymer sealant. And every 4 months i use the 16 paste wax. I havnt asked this question but i've heard people talking about it. Is what im doing wrong by any means? I know if you wash the car too much it can actually take off the paint.. But since i go through all that wax and sealant, is there really any need for me to worry about it happeneig to my car? I dont think so but im not a total pro so i figured some of you might be! And also, can the same thing happen to chrome if yo udont protect them right? (my rims) because i wipe them down once a day everyday, and use chrome polish, but is that enough protection? They dont understand why i do it, because they think maintaining a car and keeping it as clean as i do mine is easy. Amart88 Posted June 22, 2013 Report Posted June 22, 2013 The first thing that you would notice is the clear coat fading. I don't think it is going to happen over night just be observant. I mean, that's the whole point of cutting compounds is to abrade the clear coat to fix imperfections. So over time it can eat through it. Regular soap I would not worry so much. If you want to wash your car everyday you can. You don't have to use a wash mit or even soap sometimes. Watch some videos if you have free time and write some notes. 2001 GMC Sierra Build.
