Nice updates man. Been doing some serious work. Props

Thanks alaskanzx5 I might just do that
I can recone a sub myself. About a year ago I took 2 12" power acoustic mofos and made one sub. I took the magnet and the motor off of one and j b welded it to the other motor and magnet. I had to wind my own voice coil so it would work. After I was done hooked up to 2 boss 5000w amps. And shattered my back and all my side windows

came to this thread to recommend soundqubed and ct sounds. OP goes with soundstream.

oh lawd.

Damn yeah major updates bro nice!! And man I wish I had at least a garage to work in I'm in a damn apartment for another like 7/8 months can't remember how long is left on the lease but I've been gettin in what I can while its nice! Here in Colorado its been actually pretty damn nice the past couple weeks, mid 50°s so I got my RF mids in the doors and got most the designing and cardboard mock up done for my amp rack! Get it while I can! Lol :)

Can't complain about that weather! It's been give or take with the weather here..few bonus days every few weeks for outdoor weather, but even as much as I hate working in the garage some days, it's still better than being in 20 degrees or colder weather outside. Plus when you smack your hands on anything in the cold it's 20x more painful. Amp rack is actually my next update to post- should have it all up in about a minute or so

So let's see...have a ton of spaghetti in the back of explorer now..so many wires that have yet to be sized down for the final install...

Made this all up in sketchup- took the dimensions out so that it's easier to look at. If anyone has an explorer and wants to do the exact same setup or mock up the old one hit me up and I can email you the .skp's with all the dimensions.

Here's the inside where the HC2400 has a place to stay instead of lounging in the cargo area

and the outside

that front part that protrudes keeps all the wires hidden when the seats are folded down. also keeps everything nice and neat.

Changed a few things brace wise and added in more bracing in a few spots from the images as well

Onward to building:

Never trust the dimensions of a battery without measuring it. had to use a few scrap pieces of wood to fix this problem, but was actually a good thing so that getting to the battery was a lot easier.

Sides are on. Stopped taking pictures until I had the DD, Alpine and fuse holders mounted. That part slides in and out (after I loosen 4 screws) to make life easy if I need to take it apart:

Next thing was drilling a ton of holes so I could run all the wires through it

Dem wires

I've got more pictures of all this, but I don't think they have any point and I'm trying to keep it to ~10 pics per post so I can fit them on the sites that limit it to that...I'm at 7 so far i believe.

Anndddddd the tops on, amps mounted. this took FOREVER to do. Mostly because I didn't bother to remove the lvl5 to wire things up:

That's about where I'm at right now. Oh also picked up one of these and my life is so much better. Old Lead Acid was also taking a dump.

As promised, I tried to get pictures of the truck, but she is dirrrtyy (so much salt that the front looks like I dipped it above the bumper). I've got all the plastic trim dipped in grey now, but I don't think you can tell. Tailgate is all black so the rust will keep off of it. Once there's a nice day to wash her off, I'll get clean pictures.

Only other thing I need to do really is make some trim panels for around the sub box and add another baffle to make the sub flush mounted or swap out the lvl5 for the m3 8s, and get a little cargo area back- still haven't made a final decision on this, but I'm going to at least get them in there. For now though,I'm pretty pleased with where I am. Sounds great, have minimal alt whine (only have a slight slight amount through the founteks that you can hear if the volume is at 1-2 and I think it's just a crap pair of rcas causing it).

Only other thing I might do between now and then is swap out the z120 for the 80prs and see how things sound, but we'll see. Happy for now.

80prs is an amazing headunit. Running my lvl 4 12 on a 1.2k for now, don't think i'll put anything more into the ranger. Might turn it into a mud truck at some point. Pursuing new vehicular choices as i type this lol

Good looking build man, i know how you feel about listening to music on both ends of the music spectrum my spotify playlist has a little bit of everything pop, rock, metal, hip hop every end of all the spectrum, also just kind of curious are you just sticking all of your decals on for the sticker bomb or are you coating it with something after?

I'll send you a 460 big block in trade for a 393 windsor stroker kit, if you wanna build a sweet mud truck.

Exploder is looking kickass, ESPECIALLY THAT AMP RACK OMG!

Can definitely tell you took a LOT of time doing that. A++ sir :)

Hell yeah I hate hittin my hands in the cold I try to wear work gloves but I always take them off cause there's too much I can't do with them on, and yeah even in a garage its cold like you said just crank the space heater but that helps minimal it always feels like lol!

And the amp racks looking sick man!

I took mine out of the malibu before I put it away for winter (only paying $25/mo to have a space in a heated garage over at the erie 1 boce's place- it's basically a huge heated underground parking garage), so it's always an option to mess around with/see how good the auto tuning is in a 3 way setup, but a DSP would be 100 times better...just need to find one for a good price haha. I vote hell yes for a mudder- might be the explorer's fate once it gets too rusty!

Thanks man and it's pretty much the best thing- can enjoy any kind of music and accommodate your passengers all at the same time. The lvl5 does a pretty good job keeping up with most of the bass (tuned at 32), but I still want to see how the 8s would sound tuned to around the same.

As far as the stickers go I cleared over them. They need A LOT of clear coating though. I thought I had put enough on the doors (~2.5 cans each), but it wasn't enough and some of them are starting to fringe and come up a bit around the edges. I sprayed enough on the pillars that only one of them might fall off in the future before I cover them in vinyl. Kind of a good thing to me though, because I have to redo the doors and get rid of the holes where I have the T2 tweeters mounted and them coming up gives me more motivation to get started on it once the weather is good. hopefully they'll come off easy with the plasti dip under them.

Thanks man- still have a longgg way to go with deciding what I'm going to finish the rack in and how I want to do the trim around the sub.

Always start with work gloves and they always end up coming off haha. I was routing the midrange baffles in 10 degree weather and it was rough. Worst part was making stop markings with a magic marker that wasn't made out of plastic. Can't wait to see how the amp rack comes out for you- I feel like they're always the most creative parts of an install especially if you're limited in space
