Just wire at 2ohm for now, upgrade your electrical when you can then wire at .5. Hopefully by then you will know your subs well enough you can do it without smoking them.

Of course, you can always just turn the gain down, and use a remote gain knob to cut it back more.

So in theory the final load on the amp will be 2 ohm and realistically the amp will only be doing 1100 watts?

You mean realistically the final load will be 2 ohms and theoretically 1100 watts? Yeah pretty much. Even less after box rise but that's a discussion for another thread/day lol

That's true it's probably safer to run it at 2 ohm for a little while since I will only have 2 extra bats in my tool box and my stock 140 amp alt

Suspension stiffness, cone weight, effective cone area, motor force, suspension and coil travel, etc.

so the whole sub, is basically what you are saying. Man I wish I had an SA 12 I could build a box for. The size of the box does two things 1.) determines resonance and 2.) provides acoustic suspension

the port which everyone in the this thread, save purple and I, does some things as well 1.) Allows transfer of compressed air into and from the enclosure 2.) alters acoustic suspension

(btw this is a super simple explanation just to save my fingers the work)

so essentially the port and box work together to create the acoustic suspension which determines power handling which is the essence of the main question.

you can have a 3 cube box for a 12 have the same mechanical power handling as a 1 cube box but in almost every case the larger box will be more musical as larger boxes carry a lower f3 and can provide a much larger range than a small peaky box. Furthermore they can be more efficient. Back in the day before power was cheap people won competitions with acoustic power.

it seems acoustic power has been forgotten these days

Maybe you should start a new thread, seems like a good topic to discuss.

I'd like to continue this conversation in PM so we don't clog OP's thread if that's cool with you
