XxshadowdawgxX Posted July 13, 2013 Author Report Posted July 13, 2013 How's your box look like? I would consider it on the small side. It's around 2 cubes with a 3 inch aero. It's a temp box from just a tiny JBL 12" I use to use. I was wondering if the box could be the problem, I can't find the specs for a 12" UFO BTL though.
SnowDrifter Posted July 13, 2013 Report Posted July 13, 2013 3" aero is wayyyyy too small for that sub. If it's hardly moving, check for improper wiring and/or dead coil. Pop test and verify the coil resistance with a multi meter ~~~~~~~~SAY NO TO PHOTOBUCKET~~~~~~~~ Snow's DD-1 tracks here: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/167433-snows-dd-1-tracks/ My take on OFC vs CCA: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/110381-things-that-piss-you-off-in-the-car-audio-world/?do=findComment&comment=2461444
95neon_thumper82 Posted July 13, 2013 Report Posted July 13, 2013 Terminals could be labeld wrong. Pop test the sub. I've had this problem with a dual sub box... they were hitting out of phase like a mother lol Growing old is necessary... growing up is an option! 95neon_thumper82 Posted July 13, 2013 Report Posted July 13, 2013 dude its simple two wires one fro the positive on the amp one from the ground. touch it to the terminal on the box. if the woofer moves you're good... if not your bad. test it like they said to. they know what they are doing... they wouldn't tell you to screw things up its a legit test! JUST DO IT! like nike. now that said. if you were that afraid of messing up the sub you would have had the installation done by someone who knows what they were doing... just saying. now test the damn thing and tell us what it does just touch it don't hook it up to full 12v for more than a second Growing old is necessary... growing up is an option! Also I've done all my own installations including 4 12's, 2 15's 1 18'' sp4 in my trailblazer and most recently walled off in my chevy cruze so this isn't even close to my first, this has just never really happened before. Regardless what is the next approach. I'm thinking I've pretty much pinpointed the problem using torres box calc. The box I'm using as a temp is only 1.77 cubic feet after displacements with a measly 12 square inches of port. So I can almost guarantee it is the box indeed.
n8ball2013 Posted July 13, 2013 Report Posted July 13, 2013 No matter what youve done in the past youve got an issue now. Small box small port and possibility of a wiring mix up are all poossible causes. Try it om one coil. Bradprobert Posted July 13, 2013 Report Posted July 13, 2013 Before you go through the trouble of building a new box, i would take it out and free air it for a little bit. Do it with both coils and then each of the coils separately that way you can easily identify if a coil is bad. One of my buddies brought over his sub this morning and he only had one hooked up and it played fine. We were in the process of fixing up his box when i noticed only one coil was connected. we hooked both of the coils up and had the same problem you ran into. I would have replied earlier, but I was measuring the output of my amp with a yardstick . . .
