recone kits around $300 for the new black coil versions but you can fin kits for around $240 $260ish online and authorized dealer as well. The sensitivity is its negative although I own them I got mine used. If I had to pay full $600 plus for a 15 of the same power handling I would most likely go with something else. Look at the whole Fi line as there are different subs for different setups/music types/SPL fart runs. These HCCA's are blockheads thats why they take "power" as watt for watt next to comparible sub it takes more power to move it. So again its not as SENSITIVE.

Just got a 12.4 yesterday. I was actually impressed with it. Didnt sound bad musically. Heard rumors of it handling 10k on music. (doubtfull but who knows) It handled the lows like a champ. It got a little muddy on double bass but I think that was mainly because of the box its in. I only had it on a DD m1c at 2 ohm. Cant wait to hear it at rated power. Im in the process of finding another one.

I have 2 HCCA 10.4 @ 1 ohm on 2k in a bassworx box that is supposedly 40hz. It's only 2 cu.ft but fits my car perfectly. Seems small but it's been working fine for 2 years! The Orion PDF manual says these subs can be run in half the regular air space if your running at least the max rms rating. Seems that whatever this theory is that it works in my case too being under the max rms rating. In any case I love these subs and they slam for such a small box in my car and for the first while my amp was clipping quite a bit till I finally set my gains right and the subs didn't seem to care. To compare I had RE Audio SX's before in the same box with same amp and they went up in smoke. (more that likely from clipping but same settings on amp and the HCCA's were fine.) As far as the sound the HCCA's hit the high 30 hz better and the RE's hit the low 30 hz better but not a huge difference. I've heard too that the HCCA's like a higher tune which seems to be confirmed with my setup.

I used to run HCCA's. They did nice in 30hz applications. & I would not feed them anymore then 1500-2000rms dailey. I froze up two one after the other in 3 months. Could not take a sundown saz 2500 with only 2200clamped watts at 1.6ohms @ 14.1 volts. It was very loud and even decently clean 30hz bass but it just got to hot even -10db burps will heat it up till it smells! Definitely I would rather go with FI audio/SQ/Sundown ect. In terms of reliability the brands I just mentioned have a very high temp voice coil former & good cooling engineered into them.

Btw nothing against orion. Been installing & selling there products for over 11 years. For the price I would be afraid to own a high powered sub like that again with such small coil windings. I have never tried the newer black cones ones however & I heard they handle more power so I can't speak for the newer models.

And one other thing to keep in mind Orion has updated the voice coil material and it raised the power handling a little as well check page 22 of there catalog. If you already have the 2012 subs and for whatever reason they blow the new recone kit still works in the older basket/motor.

I love my 2 12.4 hccas I've had them for just over a year and for the last 6 months I've had them on a Phoenix gold (the one) amp 12k and never had an issue with them before the Phoenix gold amp I had them on a soundstream 10k at 16v for about 6 months never an issue I love the way they sound and they get crazy loud I've been in car audio for 20 years and one of the loudest setups I've heard !!

the single HCCA 15 I heard in a hatch a few weeks back on an audio pipe sounded pretty good it was almost as loud as my 2 DD's 12's out the trunk.
