I know I have said it in the past and heard others here say it. "A gain knob is not a volume control". LC-1 is volume/gain control, are we all being hypocrites?

Well if you more than one amp in your system (Sub, mids, etc), which most here do then it would be a gain control cause it would only control part of your system. If it was a volume control then it would lower All aspects of the system with a turn of the knob and not just one part. On your head unit you have a volume knob cause it changes the total system at the same time.

Just my .02

It would not be considered a gain control because it has nothing to do with the gain. Let's say you have your amp set for 10 db of gain, all adjusting the LC-1 is doing is trimming the input voltage to the amp to lower the volume level; with the LC-1 at both extremes, 50k ohms and 0 ohms, the amp will still have 10 db of gain.

The LC in LC-1, I believe, stands for Level Control anyway.

I was actually thinking about doing multiple "volume knobs". That way you can turn up the HU and turn down mids and tweets, then crank the BASS. Ordering 2 LC-1's today. 1 for the doors and 1 for the sub :)

the best way that it was explained to me was, it cuts the bass off all the way down and all the wait up it plays as loud as you set the gains, which as trey_dog said, it controls it by the preout

So lets say you know where max gain is on the amp and you use that knob to turn the bass amp down. Same thing?? The LC-1 creates a level of convenience to do the same thing. Still using gain for volume control

When we say that a gain knob isn't a volume knob, we say that under the scenario of someone turning their gain all the way up for max volume. It doesn't work like that. Higher gain =/= louder

BUT, it's perfectly valid to turn the gain down to make things quieter. And the LC-1 does just that. It's a signal attenuator (makes it quieter), but will never amplify it past the original signal strength
