Corey Hines Posted August 26, 2013 Report Posted August 26, 2013 I just ordered a new sub and amp set up. 2 American bass xfl 12's, with an American bass vfl 120.1 (2200W rms). I have a 2013 kia forte koup with the stock charging system and wiring. If you were using an amp with 2200w's would you recommend installing a second battery, just getting a yellow top, or using a cap? I've never used a cap so not really sure if they are worth the money. I would appreciate some help, I upgraded from one 12" mojo with a pr1000.1 Memphis amp. any suggestions would be great. first post here thanks guys.
Ben Fultz Posted August 26, 2013 Report Posted August 26, 2013 With your charging system being stock, I would do upgraded battery for under the hood and another in the back.

1two3 Posted August 26, 2013 Report Posted August 26, 2013 1. Don't get a capacitor...they are useless 2. Your gonna need at least a strong starting battery, likely another one in your trunk. If u have more than 1 then getting them both the same style (you can't have a regular car battery inside the cabin..the fumes could kill you. Therefore u should have 2 agm/sealed batteries) many people use yellow tops but I have heard of problems withbl those too. Xs is the best but sears platinum die hards are good too and cheaper. 3. Look up how to do the "big 3" And do that And most importantly... 4. Corey Hines Posted August 26, 2013 Author Report Posted August 26, 2013 thanks guys, I think im going to order an xs d975/925 series.
SnowDrifter Posted August 26, 2013 Report Posted August 26, 2013 IMO you'll want something bigger than those. Get the biggest you can fit in the front plus a d3400 or larger for the back. At this point I'm not sure it would be a productive use of money to buy a cap ~~~~~~~~SAY NO TO PHOTOBUCKET~~~~~~~~ Snow's DD-1 tracks here: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/167433-snows-dd-1-tracks/ My take on OFC vs CCA: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/110381-things-that-piss-you-off-in-the-car-audio-world/?do=findComment&comment=2461444
Rmichael91 Posted August 26, 2013 Report Posted August 26, 2013 Get what fits, if not the next one up from xs power. Then either a d3100 or something similar for the rear, big 3, run to rear, and strong ground you should be fine.
rambo Posted August 26, 2013 Report Posted August 26, 2013 Those car audio caps are trash. But if you get 6 maxwell 2.6v 2600f and series them to 15v then you got 443 farads. I have 2 banks with 5k. Everything cost $300.. But a battery would bo in the rear.
CJSmith Posted August 26, 2013 Report Posted August 26, 2013 I'd get a d3400 and start saving for a HO alt. *Rebuid in progress*
