hdorre
So my factory, 18 year old alt is finally starting to die.. and I have plans on going bigger *cough* DC 5K and XLs.. so Im ordering a Singer 230A Alt. Online, it says that the factory belt is 45.49 inches. Ive been reading to get a .5" shorter belt.. So should I look at a 45" long belt? Does it matter that the Singer alt has an overdrive pulley, when choosing belt length? There are many options for how many ribs I want the belt to have. What is recommended? What brands are recommended? I remember hearing something about Gates Green Belts a while ago. Are they still preferred? One last question.. my car doesnt set the belt tension automatically.. how tight should it be? Thanks in advance guys On 5/8/2011 at 7:38 PM, Kranny said: On 5/8/2011 at 7:35 PM, 'Maxim' said: It hurts me inside when I read stuff like this and remember you're 15 LMFAO so true Mitsubishi 3000GT (Old Build) Headunit: Pioneer 80PRS Frontstage: (2) McLaren Audio MLT-2 Tweeters & (4) PRV Audio MR Series Neo 6.5" Mids Substage: 4 15" Hybrid Subs - Tantric Motors & Sundown Softies Amps: Banda 2.4D Amp (Tweets), American Bass VFL 350.4 (Mids), and (2) Ampere 3800s Electrical :Singer 260A Alt & JY Power Lithium 2005 Chevy Colorado Ext Cab Headunit: Pioneer 80PRS Frontstage: 4 PRV 700Ti Tweets & 6 10" Delta Mids on 3000wrms Substage: 6 Fi BTL 18s in a 4th Order Walkthrough on 3 Wolfram 4500s Electrical: Singer "390" and JY Power My Official Feedback Thread
Guest
for ribs, use whatever amount the pullies on your car have been designed for. my corolla was like 4 ribs or something. you dont want 1 less rib, but you dont want 1 bigger either. 1 less and you're wasting potential pulley grip. 1 more and you might tear the belt, or the edge of it thats hanging off all the pulleys. edit: my corolla had a manual tension system. i just tightened it til i had like a half inch or so of play in the middle of the longest open stretch of belt (between two pullies or whatever). but then after like a month or so i would have to re-tighten it because of dat squeel, then it was fine after that i believe. THEKINGsBACK
Gates... he wouldnt be the first to say they did a 167 with a system like that (one that clearly DOESNT), but i have to say, he didnt beat me anywhere, ive never competed against the guy. If he thinks his does a 167, mine would probably put him in a coma. :hairtrick:

Cool.. Thanks Stelio.. I didnt understand how important the ribs were. As of right now, I guess I should plan to tighten until theres just under 1/2" of play. Anyone else? Broke_Audio_Addict
Most important thing is a good belt. I would use a gates green stripe or a Goodyear gator back. That's all I used to run on my supercharged thunderbird it would destroy any other belt in less than a month That being said a lot of people's definition of "music" is a clipped 30 hz sine wave with some 80 IQ knuckle head grunting about committing crimes and his genitals.
