Whats the best website to get the best HID kits?

Recommended Posts

Ah I see. I have a problem though. The car I'm looking to get is a 2003 Taurus and no one makes projectors for them. SO I guess I would need to do a retrofit. Is it hard? I have no idea what I would be doing...

Please keep in mind people, that several cars came with oem hids in reflector housings. However, they use specially designed bulbs for reflector housings (such as the d2R Light. That said, these guys are totally correct. Do NOT put hids in stock Halogen reflectors. Retrofits are not hard, if you have mechanical skills. Id check hidforums for more info

Why shouldn't I put HID's in the stock housings?

Housings designed for halogen bulbs have a different focal point than housings designed for HID bulbs. What that means is it will scatter light more than focusing it. You'll get less light on the road and blind oncoming traffic. Really a dick move IMO.

Another vote for TRS coming from me. Was braindead easy to do

Go to hidplanet.com and read some of the guides and get a idea on how to do it. It isn't hard at all, the key is to just take your time retrofitting correctly is not a 2 hour job it's more like 6-8 hour job. Always check the bargin bin at TRS they always have good deals.

i disagree. I have had HID's in regular housings for over 10 years before i did my first retrofit. In those 10 years, i don't think i even recall ever having someone flash their brights on me, as if i was "being a dick". If every where you went, someone flashed you, and you ignored it, you would be a dick, yes.....but in my case, that never happened.

If they are properly aimed, just like the halogen's should be, then it shouldn't be an issue. That housing doesn't know the difference between Halogen and HID. One is more intense, and a different color, but other then that the light isn't magically going to go somewhere else that it wasn't going to before. A properly designed housing should work good for either one of them. My previous F150 had a kit in it that was NOT projector. It had a pretty decent cut off and almost no scatter. A poorly designed housing will be the opposite. Halogen or HID, it will suck. You can pull up to your garage door right now and i bet you get some scatter with your halogen housing....with a halogen bulb in it. Put an HID in there and what do you get? Same exact scatter, but different color. I seen TONS of HID's on the road and rarely do they seem to bright to me. Sometimes UGLY and way overboard (anything over 10, maybe 12k is overboard IMO ie. when they become pink or green). But blinding? Nahh. Only when poorly aimed. Just like Halogens. I feel like the problem isn't the lights, i feel some of you just like to make something out of nothing. It isn't that big of a deal. Projectors are nice but everyone can't do it. I know on forums, you aren't "cool" unless you tell people to do projectors but for some people, that isn't an option. If you must, at least aim them right.

one more thing...i have projectors in 2 of my cars. I like the sharp cut off because it looks good on the garage door......but i don't find that i can see better with them. I find i can't see road signs very good. Kinda wish i had a little bit of scatter so they would reflect better at night and i could read them.

the pic that was posted above doesn't help the argument at all to me. Is that little bit of scatter that big of a deal to bitch about? That is the same exact scatter you would see if it was a halogen bulb. I see this picture below and i say boo-hoo, get over it. Whats the big deal?

Yes, projectors are technically the right way to do it and the cool thing to say on forums, but it isn't worth all the bitching and moaning some of you do about it. Like i said, i had mine in regular housings, in multiple cars, for over 10 years, since they came out......and i don't recall anyone flashing their brights on me. In fact the only time in my 25 years of driving i recall being flashed was with halogens. Never with my HID's. I took care to aim them right though.

If you live in the country you're better off not going with projectors. It's easier to see deer and wildlife with regular housings.

And the fact more than one person agrees does not make it a circle jerk, it makes it a bukkake scene and you're in the middle ;)

Chick took 3 shots of Jager, and then, pissed in my mouth..
