Aeroin Posted September 24, 2013 Report Posted September 24, 2013 Hey SMD forums, First post here, and I have some questions for all of you knowledgeable people. I currently am running 2 memphis 12" PR subs on a Infinity Kappa one amp, and I'm not happy with their performance, I'm running a pre-fab'd sealed enclosure ( I know its terrible, but we all gotta start somewhere). I'm ready to upgrade my system, I want to get louder, the amp is 500w@4 ohm, and 800 watt@2 ohm. the box says 1 ohm stable, but not on the birth sheet. I'm hoping to keep the amp and get new subs, and a custom enclosure (my father's a woodworker). My question to you guys is what subs should I purchase, or should I also grab a new amp aswell? Thanks for the input in advance!
David Bailey Posted September 24, 2013 Report Posted September 24, 2013 Man, you came to the right spot, and your dad being a woodworker is such a bonus. I would start with a nice custom bow. (Could make all the difference). Plenty of people here to help you if you give dimensions and more details.. Plus you and pops can bond while making your car LOUD! john253a Posted September 25, 2013 Report Posted September 25, 2013 Cone is king in low power 800rms at 2ohm is more then ok Post some measurements and see what fits and work before you even look at sizes and brands On a side note 800rms in a t-line can get very loud
BoomZoom808 Posted September 25, 2013 Report Posted September 25, 2013 You may just want to build a new box for them before you buy new subs it can make a world of difference. Aeroin Posted September 25, 2013 Author Report Posted September 25, 2013 I appreciate all of your initial responses! I hopefully can provide a few more details to help myself out, the sub box is currently a sealed 30L x 16W x 16D box. We probably could go a bit bigger, but not much more or we would probably have to build it inside the trunk! (kinda limits the functionality of being able to take it out when needed). I have the box in the trunk facing towards the rear, and my back seats are usually down (you can crawl into the trunk from the back seat style). As far as the budget goes, I'm hoping anywhere from the 200-400 dollar range, but I can always wait a few weeks longer and build a bigger budget if needed. And I know I won't be getting crazy loud, but I'm aiming to get as loud as possible within the budget and box constraints, The trunk has been dynamatted already if that matters aswell. Again I really appreciate everyones help.
jarrius Posted September 25, 2013 Report Posted September 25, 2013 I would just build a nice ported box to start with. And see how that sounds. 2012 Chevy sonic1xSQ HDC3 12 D2RF R1200d 140 square foot of Q-Mat(soon to be installed) 140.2Db sealed on the dash with TL 142 DB sealed on the dash with another meter (was dead on with the TL at a show i was at) 141 on music. strangeduck,on 02 Jan 2014 - 01:39 AM, said: when my car spins out i just put the car in neutral, turn in the direction i want to go and pucker my asshole

Aeroin Posted September 25, 2013 Author Report Posted September 25, 2013 Also how tall is your box you gave length width and depth we need length width and hight Sorry, Its been a while since geometry, Its 16 inches Tall, 16 inches deep, and 30 inches Side to side, in a rectangular box. But like I said, there's more room in the trunk, the max I think could fit in there would be 42ish" Length, 20-21" Tall, and 20-22 inches deep. The current subs in there are Memphis audio Power Reference 12's, model number 15-PR-12D4V2.
HHR Ed Posted September 25, 2013 Report Posted September 25, 2013 I agree with the above posts. Spend your time and money on building a nice ported enclosure and keep the equipment you have. Then after a while you can upgrade woofers and amp from there if you are not happy. You can see a huge increase by just doing the enclosure.
