ncc74656 Posted October 5, 2013 Report Posted October 5, 2013 other than power handling what does the enclosure volume in a sealed setup effect? does it change frequency response? i ask this question with in the reasonable realm of a box design say 4-8 cubic feet, will a 4 vs an 8 have different acoustics assuming power is proportional. nothing, gutted
Karkov Posted October 5, 2013 Report Posted October 5, 2013 Some say sealed give a wider range of frequencies and some of those people like that better for music. I could be wrong though. 2007 Chevy Tahoe (SOLD) 12 ~ FI Audio X series 10" w/BP option 2 ~ DC Audio 5.0K @0.67 3 ~ DC Audio 5.0K @1.0 2 ~ PPI 3 way sets (not installed yet) 1 ~ RF T400-4, 1 ~ RF T600-2, 1 ~ RF T600-4 4 ~ CT Sounds 5.25" Strato comps (rear fill only) 1 ~ XS Power D4800 1 ~ XS Power D3400 8 ~ XS Power XP3000 160 stock alt, Mechman 370 Elite, 185 DC Power 320+ Sq. BobbyG2 Posted October 5, 2013 Report Posted October 5, 2013 Smaller is kinda like tuning higher, bigger is kinda like tuning lower. Also, the bigger the box the less mechanical power handling, smaller the more mechanical power handling. *New vehicle and system coming soon.*
ncc74656 Posted October 5, 2013 Author Report Posted October 5, 2013 got it. second question, would it be an issue to have the subs on the sides of the box? both sides having one sub so that they are either directly across from one another or diagonally positioned? i ask this as i would have issue fitting upward firing subs in the back seat but i could build the box tall and have one sub facing each rear door at the top. nothing, gutted

BobbyG2 Posted October 5, 2013 Report Posted October 5, 2013 ^ He's still talking about going sealed. It's optimal to have all the subs on one face, but it may work fine. Some people say that having the subs firing in multiple directions causes some cancellation. It will work, just not 100%. *New vehicle and system coming soon.*
ncc74656 Posted October 5, 2013 Author Report Posted October 5, 2013 i think i found a way to get it to fit on one face. this was my thought: nothing, gutted
Krakin Posted October 7, 2013 Report Posted October 7, 2013 Pretty much all you need to know. http://www.bcae1.com/spboxnew2.htm Krakin's Home Dipole Project http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/186153-krakins-dipole-project-new-reciever-in-rockford-science/#entry2772370 Krakin, are you some sort of mad scientist? I would have replied earlier, but I was measuring the output of my amp with a yardstick . . . What you hear is not the air pressure variation in itself but what has drawn your attention in the two streams of superimposed air pressure variations at your eardrums An acoustic event has dimensions of Time, Tone, Loudness and Space Everyone learns to render the 3-dimensional localization of sound based on the individual shape of their ears, thus no formula can achieve a definite effect for every listener.
