Tenny Alternator

Recommended Posts

If you drop to 12.1 at idle, that means that the alternator is not turning on at that low RPM. You either need a shorter belt to improve belt contact on the pulley or a larger pulley on the alternator.

Also sell the tenney for scrap and buy a quality alt.

he needs a smaller pulley.

No.

I had this same issue with my singer 340 in my stock location and had to use a larger pulley to get the alt to turn on at idle. If he isnt getting proper belt contact with the pulley and it is not turning correctly or is slipping, then it may not charge at idle. The smaller pulley allows the alt to turn faster, but if you dont have good belt wrap, then it is pointless since it cant do its job.

Or could just be that your car idles too low to kick the alt on.

That's what I was thinking after he posted the pic... Idle seems a little low for me. Should be around 600-800 rpm

Thats cool. Im way too old to be upset by shit like that. Your name is winston. Your own parents hated you even before you were born.

My penis is bigger than your penis

I'm far from loud and my roof/headliner flaps around like Adam's ass on a windy day. I think it depends more on the structure of the vehicle.

i could agree with you. we would need to see pics of belt wrap. belt wrap is very important, i agree. but seeing his care idles at 500 like my car, i would bet it is too low of an idle. my car charges in the low 13s at idle after smaller pulley. larger pulley never turned alt on at idle. that would be my guess. we cant no for sure until we see pics of alt instal as well

belt wrap looks fine to me. seems he already has a small pulley on it. only thing we cant tell is belt tension which also can effect idle voltage. does your belt seem fairly firm?

my guess this is jsut a case of low idle speeds.

also your batterys are close to dead or arent charged. when alt is off (not spinning fas enough) your voltage should drop to batt resting voltage. but since you say it drops to 12.1, sopunds like batts arent charged cause that is a low resting voltage. you have AGM batts?

Probably idle turn on speed. I had the exact same issue with my mechman on my old corolla.

Too bd I found out AFTER I spent 400 dollars on what ended up being an expensive paperweight.

I have a kinetic 1400 under the hood an a xsd3100 in the trunk this is the battery voltage with the car off.
