monitors

Recommended Posts

Ok so I'm starting to look for a monitor for the gaming tower. I'm running a msi raedon hd 7870 ghz edition. What would be a nice monitor to pair up with that? Might add a second graphics card in future but for now just single one. Looking no bigger then 24" and $150 or less. Maybe $200. What would be better? Led. Lcd. Or plasma? Its a gaming computer and sometimes engineering. But if I could get some advice on what u guys think that'd be great.

Thanks. :)

LED LCD is you best bet, I have an HP 23xi and love it. It's not a gamers monitor because it is IPS, however I have not noticed any reason that inhabits the gaming ability of a causal gamer. It can be found for $159 all the time, it's a really nice monitor.

I have mine hooked up with a DVI-HDMI cable from my laptop, Either way DVI or HDMI. Its the same signal, biggest difference is HDMI will carry audio as well. The monitor doesn't have speakers, so that doesn't matter.... lol

What about dvi vs vga? Current tv used as monitor is vga but I have a dvi to vga adapter right off graphics card.

I have the HP2711 monitor and love it.

Here are a couple of links to one like mine and the 25" version closer to your budget.

EDIT: BTW these have the gloss screen and will reflect everything. I prefer the gloss screen for the vividness of the colors on the screen.

Acer and Asus have some nice monitors for around 150. Check out Newegg, Tiger Direct, and Amazon. The Asus monitors are normally on sale through one of these sites.

Acer- http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=7665812&CatId=5469

Asus- http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1990492&csid=_61

*on the VGA vs DVI*

I prefer DVI honestly. (just personal preference)

also, if you are going to use a HDMI to DVI cable, make sure that the monitor supports DVI-D since the HDMI signal will be digital. (Normal DVI is analog / DVI-D is digital)

this shouldn't be a problem with the newer monitors but it doesn't hurt to take a few seconds to make sure before you buy.

I wouldn't worry about it, I haven't seen a monitor in years that only has a DVI-A input. Typically you find DVI-I on video card output as it support both analog and digital and a DVI-D as a monitor input.

For example, newegg doesn't sell a monitor with DVI-A in.

So far I'm liking that acer g series the most. Nice price and seems like good specs.

Me and my brother will go halfs on one. He wants for bf4. I want for engineering and games. Ill go dvi most likely. Any cable work? Or do I need a decent cable?
