soundsystemaniac Posted February 8, 2014 Author Report Posted February 8, 2014 Time for an update! The 2 sets of focal speakers in the front doors have been replaced by 2 crescendo mezzos components! There has also been an Execution Audio 60.4 amp dedicated to the front doors! Now, we have a front stage that can finally keep up with the bass lol. And suddenly, we have loads of midbass! We took the old alpine 4 channel and dedicated it to the rear doors and now, those are much louder and cleaner also! There are still some tiny things that need to be completed, such as led lighting for the volume knobs to be seen at night. But the truck is 98 percent complete and at full tilt, everything is very balanced and a great pleasure to listen to! Well, when we pulled the front sub to install the mirror, we found that the triple joint was showing signs of wear and that a tinsel lead on one of the coils had burned. We reinforced the Triple joint and made an attempt at soldering the tinsel together again. We dropped it back in there, but We are very impressed with these subs lasting this long on an AQ 3500 at .375-Easily over 4krms-on 1800rms combined subs. Kyle is now looking at upgrading subs. We have a mounting depth limitation of 8.5 inches. He is considering Zcons DC XL IA wardens Any other suggestions? He plans to add another AQ3500 so figure between 7k to 8k rms to 3 subs. The plan is to get 3 subs for now, then possibly another 3 or 7 down the line for a blowthrough! He really wants to know (even though its not built for #s) if we can demo at 150db out of the center console at 29 or 30hz before we do a blowthrough! I think its possible! It peaks at 29 and got a 145.8 at the headrest with the drivers door open....with 2 dead coils! we think its got a 147+ in it when we recone these. we also did port wars between the cars that were there last night and this won with a score of 160.2db in the port at 33hz. we could have probably gotten it higher but we ran out of time lol. I know we cant really compete with this thing at all because its considered extreme class because part of the box is in front of the b pillar. we would be competing with people that do 170+db lol, but that kind of gives you an idea of what you experience sitting in this beast...even down 2 coils. The part that failed on the coils was the tinsel leads. we plan to have dave leib make us some drop in recones with extra tinsel leads and an extra spider. then we will be back to full potential again!
