Nice to see someone did some reading and measuring before purchasing the wrong gear. Also loljokes in the first paragraph. That's all. ^ see thats a nice member, you dont know how many times i see people ask a question when there new and they get bashed. Told google is there friend, or do a search or take it somewhere. There here to learn. You were there too at one point.

I am looking into the soundqubed and DC options, and I am going to pull some dimensions today to see how much trunk I think I could sacrifice and still fit my gear. My alternator will get here Monday and I will start wiring etc. I will probably start ordering parts in the next week or so. Ill email DC about prices and compare from there, and start playing more seriously with some box calculations as well. Thanks everyone!
jk13 Posted November 2, 2013 Report Posted November 2, 2013 Don't forget to measure the height of the rear seat opening if you plan to seal it off from the trunk. Hard to seal off a box for a 15" if you only have 13" of height. That should help with equipment decision. Static drops are my bag.
Mike R Posted November 4, 2013 Author Report Posted November 4, 2013 So I took some measurements today, it looks like I could get away with 35x22x16 which would make the box fill the width of the trunk between the wheels. I would like to use less space than that if possible but those dimensions would let me still fit the guns and gear in the trunk. As far as being able to seal it off from the trunk I don't think I would be able to do that with anything bigger than 12s as the opening where the rear seats fold down is just over 13"- but that is the lip that comes down. I have 17 inches or so to the factory amp and if I relocated that I could probably even go a little taller. The DC setup will be over my initial budget, I could bump up the budget but I am not sure if I want to do that with this car right now. I could buy the sub now and build the box, and run it with the amp I have now (a JBL that did 700 watts rms on Amp Test Tuesday) then save up for the 2.0k. That idea is tempting because I could get going pretty soon and get away with a slightly smaller box. The soundqubed setup looks nice too, and would be much easier on the wallet. That route is very appealing as well! I really like the look of the CT amp that was just tested too. If I go with a single 15, which is what I am leaning toward, would there be a disadvantage to going for an HDC3.0 15 over the HDS? Also I am trying to avoid adding a second battery if I can help it. I have 4 gauge wiring right now but my AD244 comes in tomorrow and I can redo the wiring down to 0 gauge without too much trouble, big 3 will be 0 gauge as well.

Mike R Posted November 5, 2013 Author Report Posted November 5, 2013 Got my quote and if I go DC it will blow the budget. That said I think I still want to do it. That would give me a higher output amp for down the road. I still am somewhat uncomfortable with the idea of having an amp with an RMS output over the subs rated peak. If I am already going to go over budget is there a reason not to go to a Level 4? DC site says level 3 is the best for daily drivers, but I have the additional airspace the Level 4 calls for and it seems like DC has pretty good Black Friday/Cyber Monday sales. I was going to buy a lot of other stuff that week but I think that I can swing the additional cost. Thoughts? I still might go with the soundqubed set up, I would feel better about having an amp and sub more closely matched. I know many have said that the DC 2k and the Level 3 will work together but I almost don't want to pay for that much amp if I am going to have to turn down the gains and feel concerned about it.
ROLEXrifleman Posted November 5, 2013 Report Posted November 5, 2013 FYI, you can manipulate the power output of an amplifier to send out reduced voltage to your speakers by manipulating the gains. For example I used my DD1 to set a punch 200. Once set I took my dmm and read voltage. I then cut that voltage in half by manipulating the gain to give me a theoretical output of one half what the amp was rated at. Why? Because I had it laying around and the coax speakers would never had taken its true output Rolex you sicken me. Just let me finish my pie ~ Juice
