Im a lil weird about mine.

It got cold this morning. I jump in to warm the blazer up, and the charge is at 16.2 volts?!

EDIT- when i had a LOCKED set 14.6 setting?

I turn it down, full well knowing that when it gets hot, it well be under 14.

Sure as shit,.. i jump in after 10 mins, and its at 13.3....

I was hoping for a set it and for get it type unit?

yea i havent had that problem yet, i have it set at 14.8 and when i get in and start it when its cold, i maybe see 14.9 for s bit but after it warms up i see 14.4-14.6 usually and thats what my stinger meter sees with no music or anything on and my meter on the xs vcm sees 14.9 at the highest so far when its locked at 14.8

alright guys, this is kinda weird and idk why it would act this way, ill be putting up a vid soon once it finishes uploading but it would seem that when i turn on components in my truck... my voltage goes higher??? like when i step on the brake it goes from 14.6 to 14.9 or when i turn on the defroster it goes from 14.6 to 15.0 or 15.1 and then when i step on the brake it will go up to 15.3.... this is the strangest thing i think ive ever seen.. just wondering why this is happening or how this could be happening and is it something i need to be worried about?? and my stinger meter is like .1 off either way so ik its decent number to be looking at

i get the same thing.. i set mine at 14.4 hot and when the electric fans kick in it jumps to 14.6 volts to 14.7.. i got the dmm direct to the battery and it also jumps .2-.3 of a volt.

I am stumped by this thing. I dont want to make a new thread, so, I figured that I could just ask here. Why wouldnt the alternators internal regulator cause it to be able to do exactly what the vcm does and "lock it at 14.8" we have one in our demo van because the alternator (dc 320spxi) did not seem to charge very well. Like it would charge at like 13.8 or so and stay that way when it was warm. Now, we have the vcm in it and we can get it to constantly charge at 14.8. Why doesnt the internal regulator already do that? And when does the limit of the alternator get reached when you have a vcm? I know you cant power a 20000 watt system with 1 alt, but in theory, couldnt you just continue to bump up the voltage on the vcm to be able to maintain a 14+ volt charge to the batteries? Would the alt just fry itself in that case? If anyone could shed some light on this subject for me, i would apprecuate it!
