Either way that is what I have read or been told. Also saying a fourth has a larger bandwidth is laughable. Plot one out and look. They are louder so the wide bandwidth is perceived not true. It's like saying ported has a wider bandwidth than sealed. It just isn't true. i guess i meant louder across a greater bandwidth

Edit: for the 3 db gains In that situation then, if true, then a vehicle with a ported wall would meter higher outlaw style than sealed up on the dash(acting like a 6th order), which is like the rest of the topic is getting to...sometimes true and sometimes false. With that same false logic, one could build a sealed wall to meter outlaw in a manner that would act like a 4th order. /fucktard logic. With your subs being in a sealed enclosure within a port, being sealed in a sense suffocates them so they may have a tad bit higher power handeling, and being across from one another they build pressure off of each other. If you have the know how, i prefer 4th over ported. Obviously just a little more tricky.. Lol

walrus salesman Posted January 31, 2018 Report Posted January 31, 2018 Old topic but im gonna reply anyway since half the comments are from people who have never built or heard a proper bandpass in their life and like to pretend they’re experts. Flat walls have a peak around tuning and drop off quickly below it and slowly after tuning, they’re easy to build and take up less space. a 4th order if built correctly will play a bigger bandwidth than a flat wall, the tuning, port area, and size of the front chamber all dictate how high it can play, and the rear sealed chamber dictates how low the box will play. A 6th order that’s built correctly is much larger than a 4th order and has an even bigger bandwidth due to the 2 tunings. The rear chamber is tuned low and has a peak, it rolls off below tuning and rolls off slowly after tuning, in which case the front chamber picks up the slack and has another peak because it is tuned higher. From my experience if you want the best range of notes it’s best to tune your front chamber one octave above the rear one, so that way when your lower chamber starts to get quieter and quieter the front chamber naturally starts picking up the slack and it gets louder. I’ve seen people tune them at 23/46 and have a huge range of notes they can play with authority, this box is also the most efficient because both chambers are ported and it is using the rear and front wave of the subwoofer unlike a 4th which uses only the front wave
