Anyway, im looking into gaining more playable band, and by playabe, i mean LOUD playable, not, Oh, i can hear it playable. I think that happens on here a lot. You get the dude saying, "I can play from 20 to 55. Well, i can to, but im talking with nuts behind it. After speaking with a lot of you, and others that get loud, i was told to either or, open the vent, or shrink the enclosure. My enclosure seems quite peaky. A peak around 37hz. Playable from 25-46 but with balls behind it 28-39. And uber at 31-38. The drop off in the 40's is a fair amount. So, with the port work would require baffle work. So, i went about shrinking the volume with enough cut 2.4's to equal around 1 cube. I screwed them in, remounted the subs, and tested almost a db loss at my peak. Also down was the low lows. 25hz i put up a 50.45 now im down in the 49's at 25hz 37 (as said) was 54.50 now a 54 flat. The 42-44 range is up!, but not anything cool....... so, it seems maybe my band width did stretch a bit, but, not much. I wanted to keep my peaks where they were, just gain more on the outter FREQ's. I should have kept things more IDENTICAL, wrote everything down..... All i do know, is my peak (at 36) was a 154.54, and im down i THINK (cant remember) around 3 or 4 tenths. Which, isnt much. My 25hz blast pulled a 150.24, and it was down in more. Around 149.xx i believe. The only gain, (and it was expected) was at and around the 42-44hz mark. But it was only a few tenths i think.. Im not sure if any of it was worth it. Sucks to, it took pulling 2 subs, and a wasted saturday. Oh well, thats the game i guess. kirill007 Posted January 20, 2014 Report Posted January 20, 2014 You won't gain any avereged dB's if you shrink the enclosure without adding more power. Opening up the port will give you what you want. If you model your enclosure, you can see what will or will not help, usually more port area will give you a louder result. Thinking is the root of all problems... You ALWAYS get what you pay for.
