DireRaptor22
I can buy this at my local Fry's store right now: http://www.frys.com/product/7967920?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG Instead of $49.99 I pay about half price because of various discounts I get there. I know Planet Audio is a shit brand, but does that follow through in their wiring or are all wires fairly similar? I plan to run 1500W-2000W on my next amp, along with an alternator upgrade and big 3. Would this hold out OK? Thanks for reading a n00b's post and potentially helping one “The fascination of flight can't be expressed with words. But it really lies beyond the capabilities of human endeavor. ChevyBoy95
Yes it does matter. Just because some is described as 1/0 doesnt mean that it is good wire. When you buy 1/0, you want 4500 strands or so up to about 5000 strands. This ensures you have a good thickness of wire along with extreme flexibility (most of the time). Then you want a good composition for your application, CCA for lower power, OFC for higher power and more efficiency. OFC is more costly than CCA. The wire you posted, will most likely be undersized 1/0 which is cheap and not as effective as "real" 1/0 spec wire. The price reflects this. Check out CT Sounds or Sky High Car Audio on this site for better wire and wiring kits that are great quality and affordible. spec size 1/0 CCA will carry about 2000-2500w spec size 1/0 OFC will carry about 3000-3500w Best Score to Date : 160.5 dB Outlaw (47Hz)[4 XM 15's & 2 Taramps Bass 12k's] BL : http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/147800-chevyboy95s-4-15s-7krms-wall-1533-db-on-half-power/YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/hitemwiththeflex/
DireRaptor22
Thanks for the quick response! I will definitely check those out. I'm currently running this kit right here, 4 AWG: http://www.frys.com/product/4574007?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG It's rated 500W but I run 1100W no problems. Would I be safe with this going with a more powerful amp? I do hear people say Monster makes good wiring kits and power cables etc. “The fascination of flight can't be expressed with words. SnowDrifter
Just because it says 0 gauge doesn't mean it is. And wire materials play a role too. Cca/aluminum wire is going to be vastly different in conductivity than a true Oxygen Free Copper OFC wire. ~~~~~~~~SAY NO TO PHOTOBUCKET~~~~~~~~ Snow's DD-1 tracks here: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/167433-snows-dd-1-tracks/ My take on OFC vs CCA: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/110381-things-that-piss-you-off-in-the-car-audio-world/?do=findComment&comment=2461444
bbeljefe
↑ What ChevyBoy95 said. Except that CT Sounds 1/0 is ofc only. If you're looking for CCA, which should be fine for your application, look for Execution Audio 1/0. They're both made by CT Sounds but EA is the entry level brand. And just as an FYI, The Execution Audio 1/0 amp kit is $60.00 and has some nice RCAs with it, along with the other goodies amp kits have. And since CT Sounds is in southeast Texas, you should have no trouble finding one locally. P4killer_
A few good rules of thumb: Do a little research. Itll save you money and if not at least you wont waste any money. Know what your paying for. You need to know what it is you are exchanging your hard earned moneh for. At the very least to avoid paying $8/ft for 4 guage cable or a similar scenario. If you dont want to research, dont buy the cheapest thing on the shelf. Chances are its cheap for a reason.. buy the next model up at minimum. Follow the above and youll be in ok shape. Maybe not great but not completely terrible. It applies to cars, audio, electronics jusg about everything imo. bbeljefe
It's rated 500W but I run 1100W no problems. No problems that you've heard. Install a 1/0 amp kit and a big three upgrade without changing anything else and you'll hear the difference. I do not see a single local store that carries that brand. “The fascination of flight can't be expressed with words. But it really lies beyond the capabilities of human endeavor. Your wire is probably either heating up and causing it to be quite inefficient (loss of power), or you are not truly getting 1100w.
