Sealed and ported enclosure?

Recommended Posts

Ok guys i have been thinking... I know the pro's and cons of ported and sealed box's and the main thing i am aiming for is sound quality. So i was thinking of running two 12" alpine type r's, one side ported and the other side sealed this way i would get the best of both right? Would this work out or is it not worth bothering?

"Sub-bass sounds are those approximately below 60 Hz and extending downward to include the lowest frequency humans can hear,

typically 20 Hz.

In this range, human hearing is not very sensitive, so sounds in this range tend to be felt more than heard"

The amount of work it takes to get a properly designed and built 4th order bandpass is much more than someone that hasn't been in the sport long to undertake.

I am somewhat more limited to my knowledge on them, but when CleanSierra has the energy to think he might help you out.

As for which enclosure, sealed or vented, to go with matters on your sub's parameters. I would suggest look around the forums at some of the SQ car builds, some use sealed and some use vented. It all depends on if you really want SQ or just a good sounding, loud setup. The difference is tremendous.

Krakin, are you some sort of mad scientist?

I would have replied earlier, but I was measuring the output of my amp with a yardstick . . .

What you hear is not the air pressure variation in itself

but what has drawn your attention

in the two streams of superimposed air pressure variations at your eardrums

An acoustic event has dimensions of Time, Tone, Loudness and Space

Everyone learns to render the 3-dimensional localization of sound based on the individual shape of their ears,

thus no formula can achieve a definite effect for every listener.

A good sounding loud system sounds good, i was just trying to think of a way to get the punch aswell as the rumble... If ya get what i mean lol

i know you are talking about running one sub sealed and one ported. It might work, it might not. Probably not. You just have to test and see. But most people here are going to say it wont work. With a shit ton of experience you could make it work.

Better to do both subs ported or both sealed.

A well built ported enclosure can have good sq.

People who run ported will swear ported sounds better than sealed.

People who run sealed say theirs sound better than ported.

it will never end

I say try it and see what happens and report back with your results.

Strangeduck, just to be clear, my response for was for the OP, not in reference to your bandpass suggestion. You and I commented at the same time was all :)

Martin Clayton, I suggest trying either ported or sealed. If you're interested in SQ, truly, either do a sealed box or a LOWWW low tuned vented enclosure. If you choose the vented box, I suggest a very badass mid stage which will likely be costly.

Im not the one you want to try to troll. Just a fyi for you.

Sealed is the way to go buddy. Dont try two enclosures side by side with different tuning unless you are going to activly cross them over at diffrent frequency spectrums. Otherwise, they may have phasing issues and they will cancel each other out on certain frequencys near the f3.

If you are truley into sq it gets expensive as shit, especially if your trying to get loud.
