So now I have a Yukon....

Recommended Posts

What's up y'all, happy new year. I haven't been posting in a while because life has taken over. Here's the short. My girlfriend works about 30 minutes from our place, and she owns a 99 GMC Yukon with the 5.7 and 204,000 miles. It was costing her (us) like $400 a month in gas just to get to and from work. So, being the man that I am, I let her take my pride and joy Camry (4cyl) and I took her Yukon. I actually like the beast, but it needs the Spider changed out. I am not familiar with working on big a V-8, but it looks like something I can handle. It is a very ommon problem with the older GMC motors, so I was wondering if anyone here has done this to theirs. Is there any unexpected trouble I should look for, or any tricks that might make this go easier? I know it's not audio, but if I get this beast running solid, I have a LOT of room for some BOOM!

Yeah, the fuel spider. After research I see it is a very common problem with the older GMC motors. I am going over as many you tube videos that I can to get the best way to do it. Looks pretty simple, just gotta go step by step when removing all the plugs/parts.

The fuel spider is damn easy to replace, I've done it on a 4.3, 5.0 and 5.7. It's pretty straightforward. My advice would be oil the gasket where the brain of the fuel spider slides through the plenum. (Intake manifold lookin thing), and you're good really.

Oh also, when you go to buy the new fuel injectors, make sure it's not a remanufactured, yes, reman is cheaper, but the new ones have 2 wires going to each injector, and instead of fuel injection they call it somethin else, but it's much more reliable, and gives you more power because it fires each injector individually or something along those lines.

edit; It's CSFI to MPFI conversion. No mods or anything needed. Also the poppet injectors are recessed a bit to help prevent build up.

Yeah, I am going with the one from ACDelco. It is OEM. http://www.amazon.com/ACDelco-217-3029-Fuel-Injector/dp/B000NW8EU8/ref=au_as_r?ie=UTF8&Make=GMC%7C48&Model=Yukon%7C558&Year=1999%7C1999&carId=002&n=15684181&newCar=1&s=automotive&vehicleType=automotive

Sweet man, it looks good. Honestly, I would recommend getting it from a local parts shop. Reason being, yes you pay a little more, but one word. Warranty. Those new units come with a lifetime warranty. Would hate to have to buy a 300 dollar part twice, right ?
