How much power can I run through 10gauge wire

Recommended Posts

Always ran 8 gauge speaker wire but it Is a pain trying to trim and stuff 2 8 gauge wires into the sundown sa terminals I have some sky high ofc 10gauge would this hold up good if I did my initial run from amp in 8 gauge then wires all the subs together with the 10 gauge it's 8 subs

either way unless your running insane power 8 or 10 gauge would be fine for the vast majority of installs. 6k across 8 subs is only about 750w or so per sub. Your fine.

Setup:

2010 Hyundai Elantra

Factory Unit via 4 chan NVX LOC

Excessive Amperage "H/O" Alt

Xs D3400/ Xs XP3000

Big 3. 2 Runs of +, 2 Runs of -

DD M3b and 2 12" AQ HDC4s

I figured it would work out ok but just didn't WANa lose power with smaller wire, I had a chart a while back that showed wire size and length and ohm load and power but I can't find it anymore

I mean you maaaaay benefit from larger wire to a point... but in a practical sense its no big deal. Larger wire means less resistance equals less voltage drop across the wire, equals less wasted power basically. But a small increase in efficiency, a smallller increase in spl maybe versus the cost of running 8 gauge to each sub... for many people isnt worth it.

It would take alllllot to actually melt the wire or something. Ive ran 4 subs on 3k which is an equal ratio to ur setup with 12guage speaker wire of oh about ~10ft for the longest time without any issues..

like i said 10guage espcially ofc, for just about every install is plenty. if your chasing numbers, or just like to have optimal setups, or w.e the case, you maaaay benefit from larger wire if you wish, but it wont be night and day.. unless your running 20 gauge or something silly.
