devestator_x
Ok, I shouldnt even be posting this, this is pretty embarrassing, but I figure someone on here might get a good laugh out if this. This is the stock electrical on my 1983 Camaro Z28. My next upgrade is going to be a big 3 kit, even if I dont install ANYTHING else. This smaller wire is the positive feed from the alternator. The larger one is the direct feed to the starter. The starter wire is 8awg for reference. Back of the alternator... My chassis ground point, once again factory and tiny. The larger ground wire you can see is grounding to the motor, that is also 8awg. A side by side comparison of my 8awg Streetwires positive wire and my stock factory chassis ground... I relly question how my car even gets any power at all now. Never really looked at until now. Never really thought to look at it until now. Like I said, it's pretty pathetic, but thats how they did it back in the day 30 years ago. And if anyone is wondering, my car is 90% stock with just barely over 100,000 original miles and Im only the 2nd owner of the car. Picture of the outside for anyone curious... Bship
That wire is plenty good enough for what it was originally intended to do. Not a lot of draw from the few electronic components the car came with. That is one sexy ass car. I miss the shit out of my third gen. devestator_x
Well, lets put it this way... if I turn on the fog lights and use my blinker, I can watch my volt meter bob up and down with each blink of the light. Turning on the headlights, fog lights, and AC drops the voltage down below 12V. With nothing else electrical running, if I turn my current system up to 3.4 volume, the voltages drop to about 13 from 14 and Im only running 250watts. I mean it's been fine and I have never drained the battery or stalled the car out due to lack of power, but I bet with better wiring that carbed V8 will be a little happier with the added ignition spark, And thanks for all the compliments on the car. I think I will start a thread in the Members rides section so I can post so more pics for you guys without straying off topic here.
