Mark-E-Mark Posted March 5, 2014 Report Posted March 5, 2014 Im starting a desing for my new system. I have a painted picture, now gotta paint it! The design includes an amp mount on my roof. I own a small car. 2000 chevy cavalier. I have big plans with the option of some major equipment. But first I have to figure out the grounding of the amps. I will have 4 XS XP950's in the trunk. Unsure right now if they will be far back in the trunk or up close to the back seat area. Basically I want to know if running ground wire up the side panel to the roof to a bus bar will work for ground. I mean I follow the general rule on grounding less then certain inches. This is why im stumped. I will have plenty of 1/0 awg stinger. n8ball2013 Posted March 5, 2014 Report Posted March 5, 2014 There are bigger issues when mounting g amps to the roof than just the grounda. Gonna take some welding to pull off and a complete restructure of alot of things. Mark-E-Mark Posted March 5, 2014 Author Report Posted March 5, 2014 I know that. I need the question answered. Im cutting, welding, inserting braces, mounting a board, making bus bars. I just simply need to know how the grounding will work. Just didn't want to get into details for a simple question. I have more questions but they don't have anything to do with this question. Any help would be appreciated. hdorre Posted March 5, 2014 Report Posted March 5, 2014 Eh.. Id do some research on your amps heatsink design. In one of the builds on here.. a while ago.. a guy had 4 Rockford T4ks. One was mounted on the roof. Thats the same amp that failed out of the four. He got it repaired, same thing.. failed again. He looked into more info, and saw that those series amps weren't designed to dissipate heat in his type of installation. Heat rises.. and when it has to go through the whole board.. that worries me. Mark-E-Mark Posted March 5, 2014 Author Report Posted March 5, 2014 Thank you. Just had this wild design and just want to see if it will work. I will do some research. I am not set on these amps. They were more my entry level amps. Im looking into some major ones. Soundstream Trantula ones are sick. Kicker 3001bd I might be able to grab for about 450 or so. But I will definitely research the amps I choose. As far as grounding incase I make out okay? P4killer_ Posted March 5, 2014 Report Posted March 5, 2014 If you were to mount the normally top side up onto the roof it should be ok. Sort of like a hanging shelf.. with room on top for air flow. Plus you want to reduce any chance for vibration. .
