Can Amps Do More Than 10X Fuse Rating?

So I've always heard the rule of thumb that an amp can only do at max about 10X its fuse rating in RMS power. It this still true? Two notable examples of amps that I do not have big enough fuses but I would have thought would do rated are the Alpine MRX-M240 and the American Bass VFL4480. The Alpine amp claims 2400 watts at 2 ohms but only have a 175 amp fuse. The VFL4480 claims 2200 rms (and people on forums claim its been clamped doing 2300-2400 watts) but it only has a 120 amp fuse. How is this possible? My friend suggested maybe the capacitors store up the power and release it in bursts letting it do more than the fuse rating but that doesn't seem like it would fit RMS power. Any ideas? Would either of these two amps be expected to do rated power? Thanks

fusing X 10 is just a general rule of thumb. There are a ton of factors, so yes, something with 100a of fusing could do say 1500rms or so. But, you can only stretch that so far. If it is close to x10, you should be fine with getting right at or close to rated power generally.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but fuses protect against spikes. I know some organizations have a fuse rating for classes and people run well below recommended fuses rating if you can keep voltage and amperage from spiking.

Also we know clampratings ardent 100% accurate. Companies may also rate well above what they actually can produce

My rough estimate for what an amp can produce is take fuse rating and million it by 12.5 I say that's bottom end rating and to end being fuse rating times 14.4. Again that's just my rough estimate when someone asks me what an all realy produces

Real amps dont have fuses lol

I wanted to mention that, ... but was waiting for someone with more proven experience to do it.
