bbeljefe
So I'm building a set of door panels for a guy who'd already had another local shop do his console sub. It has cup holders, a place to put a tablet (uh... not really) and it was covered in real leather. It also had a Massive Audio Toro 10 in it, which was driven by a Massive Audio D3600. He told me the box was okay but didn't sound right, so we discussed some possible fixes for it but nothing serious. He decided to pull the sub (he had never seen inside the box) and find out if he could take advantage of the air space in the forward area of the box. Well, what he found wasn't pretty. The pics will say more than I could ever describe but one thing they won't show is that he was told the box was tuned to 38Hz. It was actually tuned to 51Hz. But it gets worse... Dude paid $300.00 for this box. He originally asked me if I could shore it up and I agreed to but, after pulling about 1.63 million wire staples out of it and sanding the foam that actually stuck to the box off it, I decided I'm going to have to start over from scratch. Being as I'm a shop owner, I tend to encourage people to use shops if they're not mechanically inclined, don't have time or simply aren't interested in building their own setups. However... if you use a shop to build something for you, insist upon seeing previous work. And not just finished pics. Ask to see progress pics or, even see something in the process of being built. A lot of shops won't allow customers in their work areas and if that's the case... run away from them like they're on fire. My customers are welcome in my work area and I have a sign on the shop door inviting them back. I will occasionally forbid someone from entering the cut/fab area if there is work being done or if there's a mess but I always welcome people who're interested in seeing what they're about to shell out their hard earned money for. It only takes a few minutes to stop the saws and show someone what's going on. Anyway, I'll post up some more pictures of this rebuild and I'll probably hang on to this piece of work. After all, someone needs to be willing to show people what other shops do. :-) Facebook: facebook.com/audioanarchyllc Instagram: audioanarchyllc Youtube: youtube.com/bbeljefe

kirill007
300 dollar for a kerfed box isn't such a bad deal right? Thinking is the root of all problems... You ALWAYS get what you pay for.
Karkov
Wow, all the bad installs from shops that are popping up lately, some of the work I've been seeing done has been almost unbelievable. Seriously don't understand how people can do that, I mean, I just couldn't send someone on their way with something I knew was just shit. CleanSierra
I hope my center console looks half as good I just noticed the sub isn't centered either. I don't know if that's from necessity in the specific build, but add that to the list of WTF Im not the one you want to try to troll. Just a fyi for you.
