How did you get into car audio?

Grew up in the 80s as a teen listening to heavy metal, rock and loved it loud! It wasnt until i was in my early 20s that i had my first RF system and was hooked. Always had small systems and only dreamed to have bigger. About 4 yrs ago build my sons Tahoe system and been working on mine the last 2 yrs.

It is an addiction but hey....I wont be going to jail for this one! lol

i was the one who asked first. but that thread is long gone and weve had new members since then. no complaints here.

sorry boss

no.need to apologize to me! great minds think alike. like i said lots of new members have joined since. i enjoy reading things like this.

my dad had a system in a car he bought when i was young. 12 or 13yr old. well we were driving and jamming out. this kid pulled up next to us gave us a smile and then i couldn't hear the music in our car anymore. it was awesome so loud and clean. ever since then I've been hooked.

One of my friends in high school got some cheap 10s in a prefab 4th fro a thrift shop. We were playing around with it. Somewhere on the line we were looking about how to get louder, found an online box calculator. Starting poking around more. Built our first box. Then after hearing that box, that's when the switch in my head flipped

This is the video. I was thinking "omg look at the laptop shaking." Thought it was so loud at the time because I've never heard anything louder. I was amazed.

That was back in 2011. I did more homework, joined here, found out what good equipment was. Worked my arse off saving, then did my first build with 2 12s and a 3.5k a year later. Everything I've learned I learned between now and then, from here on SMD :)

I was about 10 and my dad had an old Ford Ranchero. Not sure of the year, and I found a 40 watt amplifier under the seat. Asked my dad if I could hook it up and at first he said no but finally caved after he seen I wasn't giving up. There was no YouTube or interwebz for that matter back then (1980's) so I learned the hard way by sparks flying and fuses a popping. My dad was pissed pretty often but he let me just hack away at it. After about a week I had it playing on a home audio cabinet with a 12 inch woofer. I thought it was bad ass at the time.

I fell into it honestly. By the time I was 17 and had my first car, I'd been working on cars with my old man for years. My first car had REALLY crappy sounding speakers and a tape deck, so I got my dad to teach me how to solder and went to work.

My 94 Protege wound up with a Kenwood HU, Infinity Reference 2-ways, and two Rockford Fosgate subwoofers in ported enclosures. For a kid that didn't know crap about car audio, it sounded good and had great bass.

Hell, I used to make extra cash installing for friends and kids at school, just cause I knew a little and they knew nothing about wiring/electricals.

You ever see the discovery channel commercials where at the end, they say "question everything"? Even when I was little I lived my life that way.

This will sound goofy now, but I remember this pretty clearly. I was a little kid. Don't remember how old I was, but I was young. I got myself all frustrated because I didn't understand why I needed to see something to understand what it looked like. Of course now I know it's a sensory input, but as a kid I didn't make that connection and I was looking for answers. Kind of funny looking back on it, but you get the idea :P
