sprkn_ranger
MDF all the way over their "birch". But HomeDepots mdf isnt nothing note worthy either, its almost like particle board, huge chunks in it. at least the store by me. Where do you get your MDF at? A local lumber yard? I've always heard that the big box stores carry poor quality MDF but I don't really know where else to get It from. audiofanaticz
A quality piece of 4by8 birch weighs about 5lbs lighter than a 97 by 49inch piece of quality mdf..

I use Canadian mdf from a store here that is really only in the midwest called Menards. Unless a local cabinet shop has extra Trupan on hand and when thats the case they call me and buy it up asap and its normally sold in 5foot by 10foot sheets. Karkov
I always use MDF. But any wood will not be water tight without something else applied to it. 2007 Chevy Tahoe (SOLD) 12 ~ FI Audio X series 10" w/BP option 2 ~ DC Audio 5.0K @0.67 3 ~ DC Audio 5.0K @1.0 2 ~ PPI 3 way sets (not installed yet) 1 ~ RF T400-4, 1 ~ RF T600-2, 1 ~ RF T600-4 4 ~ CT Sounds 5.25" Strato comps (rear fill only) 1 ~ XS Power D4800 1 ~ XS Power D3400 8 ~ XS Power XP3000 160 stock alt, Mechman 370 Elite, 185 DC Power 320+ Sq. BigManAC
If its not treated wood then no matter what type it is it will be effected by moisture. One way to solve this is do a coat of fiberglass resin over the entire box before you do the bed liner and your problem should be solved. Then it wouldnt matter what type of wood you used bc the resin would make it water tight. ok i was gonna buy some smd sun flash to coat the inside and outside of the box does that mean i don't have to use the actual fiberglass and body filler ect... to help make it water proof? Yes, the fiberglass matt is mainly used for reinforcement and just the resin by itself will make it water tight. 2001 Saturn L200-Sony MEX-BT4100PFRONT STAGE:- (4) Crescendo PWX 6- Cadence XA250.2SUB STAGE:-Fi Audio BL 15 (Sealed Off)-Crescendo BC2kELECTRICAL:- Singer 240A alt - XS Power D3400- SkyHigh OFC power/speaker wire- Big 3 with SkyHigh 0gaugeBuild Log: Click HereScores: 146.5db @ 29hz Outlaw

moredbs
so neither would be good without putting resin over the whole box. so what I'm getting is mdf which is slightly heavier will serve the same purpose as birch if covered in resin and cost a little less
