TheMonolith2001 Posted April 16, 2014 Report Posted April 16, 2014 I happen to be pretty into tube amps for home amplifiers and guitar/bass amplifiers (hell I even have a tube based headphone amplifier!) and I got ta wonderin.....Does anyone make any tube amps for cars? I think I remember McIntosh having a few maybe? Man I sure would love to own one of those! It would be pretty easy to make a tube based pre-amp/head unit with 12v or 6v tubes at least. I would love to have that warm tube sound in my car, swappin out tubes for different sounds and such Lots of heat and power consumption though so I can see how it wouldnt be ideal/popular. Also that warm up time.

That being said a lot of people's definition of "music" is a clipped 30 hz sine wave with some 80 IQ knuckle head grunting about committing crimes and his genitals.
Stephen13 Posted April 16, 2014 Report Posted April 16, 2014 It's probably been 20+ years ago but a guy I talked to with tube amps in his car said he had a lot of trouble with microphonics when the car was moving. never knows best Posted April 16, 2014 Report Posted April 16, 2014 I run old school US amps tube amps.. there is a tu-300 (150w x 2ch), tu-600 (300w x 2ch), and a tu-4360 (60w x 4ch) awesome bullet proof amps.... they pop up on ebay every once in a while- the new US amps/RE audio stuff is "meh"

The technology itself is just interesting to me. I wonder if any of them are pure A class? Butler! Holy shit! They make the guitar pedal! I had no idea they did car audio! I came across some old models and the sellers where claiming they where made by PPI (warranty stickers on them and everything) and then I saw this http://www.butleraudio.com/about.php I need this amp to live. I have been obsessing over PPI recently. The fact that they where even somewhat involved is awesome. I would love to check out some of the US Amps stuff too. Never owned a US Amp, but have always admired them.
