I happen to be pretty into tube amps for home amplifiers and guitar/bass amplifiers (hell I even have a tube based headphone amplifier!) and I got ta wonderin.....Does anyone make any tube amps for cars? I think I remember McIntosh having a few maybe? Man I sure would love to own one of those! It would be pretty easy to make a tube based pre-amp/head unit with 12v or 6v tubes at least. I would love to have that warm tube sound in my car, swappin out tubes for different sounds and such :D Lots of heat and power consumption though so I can see how it wouldnt be ideal/popular. Also that warm up time.

US amps makes some that look like they'd work for you. But I've never run them, but US amps has a great rep.

Helix also had a tube amp not sure if they still make them but you could check.

That being said a lot of people's definition of "music" is a clipped 30 hz sine wave with some 80 IQ knuckle head grunting about committing crimes and his genitals.

Butler audio's amps are all tube amps.

It's probably been 20+ years ago but a guy I talked to with tube amps in his car said he had a lot of trouble with microphonics when the car was moving. He tried some of those silicone tube damper rings but they didn't help.

I think the butler is a hybrid. Not sure about the helix. Milbert makes tube amps too. None of them are cheap.

Nice. I will have to start hunting down these amps. I really want to try them even with the shortcomings they may have. The technology itself is just interesting to me. I wonder if any of them are pure A class?

Butler! Holy shit! They make the guitar pedal! I had no idea they did car audio! I came across some old models and the sellers where claiming they where made by PPI (warranty stickers on them and everything) and then I saw this http://www.butleraudio.com/about.php

I need this amp to live. I have been obsessing over PPI recently. The fact that they where even somewhat involved is awesome. I would love to check out some of the US Amps stuff too. Never owned a US Amp, but have always admired them.
