Swordlordboy1234 Posted April 23, 2014 Report Posted April 23, 2014 As title says. Im looking for fans now. I've decided on a "LOOK" That i want my trunk to maintain, and i mocked up some cardboard to reflect that look while giving me a place to mount said fans. I will be using a SMD TM-1 to control the fans and the temp of the amps. Haven't decided on the mounting location of that. But as of right now heres what I'm looking at. Earlier... (what i started with) And later after a little bit of thinking... Now they are not perfect. Im going to re trace them on to another bigger box so i don't gotta deal with horrible bends/cuts/ductape when tracing on to MDF. The height i have to work with is about 4 inches to the top of the bass amp. With the added height of the wood id be looking at a maximum of 4.75 inches. Im sure i could mock something up to make it look decent if the fans were 5inches though. I want it to do the job, and look good too. Here is what i was thinking. http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_5282_PAC-PF-2.html Thoughts? Swordlordboy1234 Posted April 23, 2014 Author Report Posted April 23, 2014 I was looking at those too. I can't decide on the two different types of fans and what would look/perform the way i want. I also want to try to do a push/pull ... but being that the other side of the amps has all the power wires and speaker wires the room needed might be a little short. So it might just be a push config. MoFatt0529 Posted April 23, 2014 Report Posted April 23, 2014 thats tight, I would go with multiple low speed fans though
Swordlordboy1234 Posted April 23, 2014 Author Report Posted April 23, 2014 Got any suggestions on said low speed fans? There are quiet a few on sonic varying in price and cubic air per minute that they move... I don't have any experience with fans in any way so i thought id ask. gckless Posted April 24, 2014 Report Posted April 24, 2014 My amp rack starts on page two and goes on through page 3, maybe 4?: http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/170464-1999-chevrolet-blazer/page-2 Some highlights: Got two switches, one for each bank of fans. Wired to my relay so when the switch is off they're always off, when the switches are on the fans only come on when the amps are one. Fans under the amps pull into the box, the fans on the side push out the box. "Clipping" is the biggest forum boner now. I hear you there, I just didnt know if there were computer fans that were best or if I should stick to the ones on sonic... Or those tube fans vs the square framed fans. I posted hoping to give you ideas. When you're looking at fans, two things you're looking at: pressure created, and airflow. The combination will tell you how strong it is. Typically the closer an edge is to the fan (like if you have it right against the underside of an amp), the higher you will want the fan pressure to be. The ones with low pressure but high airflow will need some space around the fan to develop that airflow. Also, around here, I don't think you need a temp sensor unless you just want it. But typically in the summer, you just want the fans on all the time when the amps are on because it's like the surface of the sun around here. And in the winter, they're off all the time. Plus it's nice to turn them off if you are giving a SQ demo. "Clipping" is the biggest forum boner now.
