dsmdan
I'm thining about picking up 3 of these group 31's for part of my battery bank. Reason for buying is they are the cheapest group 31's that will match what I need. I need to use them along with 3 other group 31's with a buss bar system. Problem is these marine batt's have both threads and standard leaded terminals. The leaded terminals would get in the way with the buss bar's. So would it be ok to simply chop off the leaded terminals and file them smooth and just run the threaded posts? Thanks. Here's the batt's. They are $40 cheaper than any group 31 with just threaded posts that I can find. They are the same group 31 all made by east penn. http://www.samsclub.com/sams/duracell-agm-deep-cycle-marine-and-rv-battery-group-size-31dtmagm/prod3590232.ip?sprodId=prod3590232&_requestid=63644 -Dan Kasun 05' Dodge Ram 1500 QCSB Hemi Blow-thru build in progress. 2 RD HW18's, RD D9, 5 Deka 9a31's, 6th order blow-thru box, Eclipse 7200mkii HU, 140' Knu Kollossus wire. wizart383
I don't see any problem doing that. How are you planning to cut the lead post? I would personally use a hand tool (hack saw) over an electric reciprocating saw less chance of creating excess heat and spark when cutting. audiofanaticz
my only real other concern is there being enough of a lead post left on the inside of the battery after you cut them flush that you can drill into and tap some threads. Yup, planned on using a hand hack saw and hand filing it smooth. my only real other concern is there being enough of a lead post left on the inside of the battery after you cut them flush that you can drill into and tap some threads. Did you read? These batts have both threaded posts and standard lead terminals. Cutting off the lead terminals would still leave the threaded posts. -Dan Kasun 05' Dodge Ram 1500 QCSB Hemi Blow-thru build in progress. 2 RD HW18's, RD D9, 5 Deka 9a31's, 6th order blow-thru box, Eclipse 7200mkii HU, 140' Knu Kollossus wire. SnowDrifter
My concern with this would be the lead near the cut distorting and breaking the seal against the battery ~~~~~~~~SAY NO TO PHOTOBUCKET~~~~~~~~ Snow's DD-1 tracks here: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/167433-snows-dd-1-tracks/ My take on OFC vs CCA: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/110381-things-that-piss-you-off-in-the-car-audio-world/?do=findComment&comment=2461444
