rsfm089
The battery holds power, the alternator just recharges it. Amps have an efficiency rating, most class AB amps are around 60% efficient, meaning in order to put out their rated 1000 watts rms, they have to consume 140% of that power rating, so they consume 1400 watts to put out 1000 watts Not me just what I'm am being told
gr8handogoatness
Yeah pretty much. The alt will give everything its got. Once it can't the battery does the rest. That's when you see voltage drop. When the alt can't give anymore you see it drop. The batteries supply the backup when the car is running and all the power when off. As far as efficiency, yeah that's basically how it goes.

White Lightning
Most Audiophiles that run Class A/B amplifiers do not care about Efficiency ratings ... Class A/B amplifiers are considered "High Voltage" amplifiers ... Not "High Current" amplifiers like your average Class D Kenwood / HELIX / Linear Power (For The Love Of Music) / Brutal Sounds / OverKill Electric Co Questions About Sound Quality ?? Try Here ... rsfm089
I ask cause some guy says he is running a 3800rms watt system off one battery and a 60am stock alt with little voltage drop and he says its really like running a 6000 watts I'm my mind from what I've read that doesn't and up. I pasted the comment in funniest things thread to see what ppl would say
philrab
One thing the OP had mixed up was efficiency vs power draw. 60% efficiency amp will draw 160% or so the power it would if it had 100% efficiency. Use the inverse of the efficiency rating. 60% efficiency = 0.6/1 Inverse = 1/0.6= 1.66 2015 Toyota Tacoma Build Thread 2007 Mazda 3; 5000K HID's, Kenwood Excelon KDC-X997, Infinity Reference 6.5 comps in front and coaxials in the rear doors, JL 320.4 four channel, Rab Designs built ported enclosure with an SA12, Kenwood monoblock, Redline Leater shift boot/e-brake boot/center console cover, JBR short shifter/shifter bushings/rear motor mount.
