SnowDrifter
I got a Rigid random orbital sander 8 days ago. Using it to sand down bondo on screw holes. Well today it stopped orbiting randomly and went into rull on rotary sander mode when I lifted it up. Took a decent chunk out of the corner of my box... Nothing unfixable, but certainly not what I expected to happen From what I can find on the product reviews, it seems to be a common issue with it. Rather than getting it fixed or changing for a new one, I'm going to see if I can return the thing and get a different sander altogether. Ideas? If it's something I can get at Home Depot - same store where I got this - that would be great. Just out of convenience. I'm not opposed to going elsewhere though. Budget is $100. I don't do a lot of sanding projects, just need something I can pick up, use it, and have it work. Dust collection isn't a big deal for me one way or another, I do all my sanding outdoors. It needs to be variable speed though. I've found myself using that feature a lot. Broke_Audio_Addict
I use this one http://m.homedepot.com/p/DEWALT-5-in-Orbital-Sander-D26453K/100671644/ Had it for years never any problems and I used it 8+ hours a day everyday for over a year once. I used it on multi million dollar homes so I trust it not to fail or cause damage to the area I was working on. Pads do wear down kinda fast under heavy usage though and that's the only negative it has. Edit - I also make sure to blow an air compressor through it after every use and take it apart once in a while to clean the Insides thoroughly. That being said a lot of people's definition of "music" is a clipped 30 hz sine wave with some 80 IQ knuckle head grunting about committing crimes and his genitals. Broke_Audio_Addict
Yep exactly the backing plate but they are cheap and easy to replace so no big deal. Dwn4BassAlan
I use the Rigid 6" 10k OPM random orbital, the bigger version, because I work on stairs/floors/cabinets/etc so I need lots of power to strip it down quick. I would recommend it to everyone if it weren't for all the people who have said theirs broke. Mine has over 1000 hours on it and works fine, and I treat it like crap. I would say if oyu got one that works you'd love it, but not worth the risk since this Makita is available: http://www.homedepot.com/p/Makita-5-in-Random-Orbit-Sander-BO5030K/202265679?N=5yc1vZc28sZyg Biomedical/Behavioral Science Major, The (Self-Proclaimed) Undisputed-Homemade-Woofer-King Super-Neodymium-Woofer Build Log: The D4BA-V.2 http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/169236-diy-super-neodymium-woofer-build-log/?p=2475620 Fucking love Alan you goddamned fucking super nerd lol When Alan uses big words I don't understand It's warming up enough that the donut-punching cyclist douchenozzles are getting their two wheeled fagmobiles out. Everytime I see a guy driving a mini cooper I cant help but think he loves cock & (2/29/16)-My wife just bitched at me about throwing out things we don't really use. My response of well we don't really use your vagina so should we throw that out was evidently not the right response. I had to leave the room. I missed Alan. RIP 5/29/15 - I love you son.
