FLI Frequency 15" Subwoofers in a ported box? Specs say recommended enclosure type: sealed

Not sure what i should make the max dimensions of this box. I don't want to go overboard and sound like crap. There aren't a lot of details on these subs and my friend just got 2 of them and I'm building him a box. I posted on a here a couple years ago when building the box for my P3's and you guys helped a lot.

He listens to some old school rap and a lot of older rock like Led Zeppelin. But he wants it to be as loud as possible. They don't sound all that great in the small sealed box they came in and i was never really a fan of sealed boxes in the first place.

They are going in a 99 toyota corolla on a Kicker 1000.1 monoblock amp.

Seeing as there's no published T/S specs, we can't find the EBP of the woofer which would help. A lot of people put woofers in boxes they weren't recommended for, the Fi SP4 has an EBP of 53.65 which would make it "recommended" for sealed enclosures. Nearly all builds I've seen with the SP4 (including my own), were ported and sounded great. What it will effect however is your response curve. Without the T/S specs we can't see for sure how it will look, but it should be fine. I've never been a fan of sealed enclosures either.

Do their largest 2.5 net box and add some poly-fill in it, if you have T/S parameters for the sub post them but likely if the mfr recommends them only for sealed, they will work best in that.

Anyways I couldn't find linear excursion limit (Xmax) for it I wouldn't like to go guessing that and give a spec for a non recommended type of box. If you have a small sealed box now go for the large 2.5 net spec and see how it goes would be my suggestion. Furthermore I would just get another sub ASAP. Or at least call then and ask for Xmax or a ported spec for the sub and I would take it from there.

OP yes it can likely be done but it will take a lot of space (about 5.5-6 cubes net) and IMO is not worth it even if you had the space which I doubt, due to the low Xmax of 7 mm you wouldn't be able to push too much more than rated power without running into issues with the subs, if you still want to try let me know but my advise is still get better subs. As a side note higher tuned music is known to work well with correctly designed sealed boxes while ported will can definitely work better than sealed on low tuned music.

Can you try to make a ported design that will fit them in a corolla trunk? If not can you make a quick sealed design for them? They barely fit in the gap now with the little sealed box....
